Hello

A question from an inexperienced guy about to build his first full PC this weekend.

I have a Seasonic G series modular PSU and noticed there are 4x 6 pin sockets and 2x 8 pin sockets for the modular cable plugs to plug in to. These sockets have very small and hard to read (I can't read them properly) numbers above them but they are not pin coded / specific to any type of cable other than the obvious 6 pin / 8 pin difference.

I was wondering, can I connect any 6 pin plug into any 6 pin socket ( and vice versa for the 8 pin) or at they specific in some way?

The manual has no information on this at all and I don't have my multimeter to check.....

Thanks

mike

I think I may be able to help. (X560 owner here)

The 6 pin cables should be either molex or sata power cables (for your hard drives & optical drives) they can go in any of those four 6 pin sockets on the PSU.

The 8 pin cables are required if your system graphics card needs a separate power feed.

its better explained here.
