Super noob question coming up but what exactly is a modular PSU since I keep seeing this phrase being used and would just like to know what it specifically means and the benefits of it.

Cheers everyone.

Very handy, as said it means you dont have a whole bunch of cables you might not even need, instead you connect to the psu the ones you do need :)

So you simply don't plug in the cables you don't need to use?

Does this save on consumption/power somehow, or is it purely aesthetics/space (and I suppose you could argue airflow)?

It helps to keep the PC tidy and does indeed improve air flow. As far as im aware it doesnt have any effect on power used by the system.

I have also been looking at that PSU but can someone tell me if it is actually properly modular or not? Damn good price if it is, I mught pull the trigger and get one.

And another question. I have a non-modular PSU (Corsair TX750) at present but the spare cables are driving me insane. What is to stop my just cutting them off then putting some kind of plastic protection over the ends to stop me electrocuting myself? :D

Has anybody ever done this?

The main 24pin, 8pin+ extra 4+4pin ATX and three SATA are fixed

It has, electrical tape each individual wire.
