molex problem

right, first off this is my first post around here so i thought i would stick to the stereotype and ask an unbelievably newbie question.

so first off I'm half way through my first proper build (have build 2 p.c's pre 2002) thought it was going really smooth, had the build 99% done then stumbled upon a slight problem.

in a nutshell i cannot connect the "molex" connectors from my 2 chassis fans to my power supply. they look identical (obviously one male one female) they should fit, yet no amount of force will make them fit.

from the psu

now by trade I'm an auto-electrician so i know I'm not being a complete idiot with this, i think because i have a somewhat budget case, maybe the plug on the fan side is poorly made? just wanted to see if anyone had ever experienced such a thing.

also another idea i thought of to make it easy, is if there was some sort of an adapter that would go from the "molex" to the motherboards "chas_fan" inputs.

thanks in advance,

ak

Sometimes those Molex connectors need the cables and terminals wiggled about to get them to fit together.

I'm pretty sure OCUK offer a Molex to 3 pin fan adaptor cable. Will check....

....can't seem to find one.

You can definitely get them but maybe OcUK don't offer them.

thanks for you're help, ive found this:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/InLine-Fan-Adapter-Cable-12V/dp/B000VFMVNI/ref=pd_sxp_grid_pt_0_1

so you're saying that will fit into this slot on the mother board:

Molex connectors can sometime be a right arse pain to connect!!

If you hold one in your hand and wiggle the wires, you'll see that the pins move around a lot!

Trying to get 8 pins in total that all move independently to match up can be annoying at times!

You should remove the competitor link but yes that sort of thing, only you can surely get it cheaper than that.

It'll plug in to that 3/4 pin header no problem. The fan will run at full speed and you won't get speed feedback but they'll spin and push air.

thanks for the help guys, i'll have another go at it tommorow, failing that i'll just find a cheaper adapter.
