Monaco Grand Prix 2013, Monte Carlo - Race 6/19

Furthermore, AUTOSPORT can reveal that Ferrari has also written to the FIA demanding clarification about the testing restrictions in light of Mercedes using a 2013 car.

Mercedes conducted 1000km of running over three days at Barcelona in the week following the Spanish Grand Prix at the request of Pirelli.

Article 22 of the F1 sporting regulations outlaws any form of in-season testing at F1 venues except for a young driver test and straightline aerodynamic running. The only other way an F1 team can run is with a 2010 car.

Although Mercedes insists that Pirelli's contract with the F1 squads allows it to call upon teams to conduct private tests when it is required, rival outfits are adamant that this cannot supersede the sporting regulations so cannot be with a 2013 car.

In addition, while other teams have also conducted similar tests in the past, these have always been done in line with the regulations.

Ferrari conducted a tyre test for Pirelli at Barcelona after the Bahrain Grand Prix, but it was done with a 2010 car to avoid falling foul of the F1 rules.

Both Ferrari and Red Bull are adamant that the use of a 2013 car - as Mercedes used – is not allowed.

The matter is expected to be debated by the FIA race stewards after the Monaco GP.

Haha these sort of controversies are always funny in F1. Redbull would be smug as hell if it had been them that had done the test and others were complaining. Likewise if it was the other way around :)

Of course, and we should expect nothing less.

If the rules say Pirelli can use one team for 1000km of additional tyre testing, I don't see what the issue is? Boo hoo it wasn't you RBR, sure, but "racing under a cloud", rubbish. The FIA should tell RBR to naff off before the race starts.

Also, just lol at the suggestion it was a "secret" test. Everyone knew about it, but if you want to upset a rival team then you do it at a race weekend ;)

I guess the only potential ambiguity Red Bull can cling to is do the rules say anything about whether you are allowed to use this years car for the test.

But if Pirelli wanted a more representative car to test with than the one they've got it would need to be a current car really.

Everyone knew about it? Yet it was not reported at all on any F1 media sites nor mentioned by Mercedes or Pirelli?

Ok, how is this race going to play out, chaps and chapesses. Will Nico maintain his lead for the whole race? Will anyone get an opportunity to overtake? Will merc strategy for pitting let them down and put one of the others in front? :)
