Monarch Airlines to go bust tonight.

That's a shame. My first ever flight was with Monarch. I guess they have been winging it all day since getting the temporary extension to their license.

My sister is in Tenerife and due to fly back with them. She has also just heard her flight later this year with Ryanair has been cancelled.

Isn't it "only" their package holiday part of business that's in trouble?

Yes and No, losing the atol licence is a red flag, specifically for suppliers who will stop accepting credit on things like fuel, likely leading to liquidity problems then leading to collapse.

It's not the first time, airlines don't tend to survive it. Shame as they are a big employer in luton.

There's a lot more going on than has been made public yet - lots of A/C heading back to England from their bases on foreign soil, a good few flights denied boarding this evening, and a Qatar A/C has been dispatched to Ibiza on repatriation duties (but that's unconfirmed, from what I can see).

I won't miss Monarch, hands down the worst flying experiences I've had (even compared to Ryanair) but I feel for the crew.

I have a flight booked with them at the end of the month (literally the only company flying that route on that day) so I'm going to have to get creative!

Only flew a couple of charter flights with them. Some of the oldest planes I've flown on, at least the decor felt that way :p.

My parents are literally on a Monarch flight to Gibraltar as we speak!

Are they due to fly back with them?

flying with them in four weeks to cyprus, well meant to be.

You won't be. Did you book via credit card?

The flight only business has been put into administration right away as well.

I imagine that they spread debts around the various businesses.

I read a rumour yesterday that IAG were looking at taking over once they went into administration. But I think there were s couple of others trying before it happened. Think Norwegian was one of them (?) guess they couldn't get a deal done.

That sucks! I was looking at some flights with them later on the year to go back to FUE. It's only them, RyanAir and Jet2 that fly from BHX there. Looks like I'll be going back to Liverpool to Manchester in future now. Highly annoying.

Parents have flights with them in June 2018, not sure if that will be affected?

Yep they won't be going.

My mother was due to fly back home to Tenerife tomorrow on Monarch. Oh well, guess she isn't now.

How is it legal to ramp up prices (or even continue to sell) for one last burst of profit knowing you about to go into admin, that should be a jailable offence in my view.
