Hi all,

Rather than hijack the other thread further, I want to know from owners what realistic MPG one can expect for a 2008 2.5T Mondeo with mixed driving styles and journeys? I was mainly looking at the 2L zetec, which by many accounts gets ~33mpg. Would a 2.5T get 28 ish if driven careful on longer jouneys? Most of my trips are short hops at work, or 20 mile round trips (B roads) to flying sites.

Thanks!

28-30~ I'd imagine is pretty easy on a longer journey. I'd wager than your long term average with mixed driving would be around 23mpg.

I'm trying to be sensible, but as said in the other thread, why get a slow zetec and get poor economy, when I get a much better 2.5T with relatively only slightly worse MPG...

I can't quite get 30 from mine on a run, however the map I run is quite thirsty so I think you'll be okay.

Regardless, for 6,000 miles a year it's not going to make a lot of difference. Bar the economy it's a really good engine - the noise is fabulous. :D

Before I mapped it I could get as much as 35 on a long run. But mapped and with a heavy foot around town I appear to be averaging around 24. It still makes me smile though ;)

I mostly do motorway miles (I get mileage) and I've averaged 31.4 MPG in the 9k miles I've owned the 2.5T.

That sounds pretty acceptable to me. Don't get me wrong, it's still not a good figure, but at only 6-7k a year, I might as well get a car I'll love driving...

Not just to find one for sale...

I get 16mpg, but don't do any motorway driving. I find 30mpg+ hard to believe. I'll find out next year when I go France I suppose!

I get 25MPG on average with day to day usage, on my run back from Silverstone I've averaged 39.2MPG the first year and 36MPG last year. That's running 300BHP, in it's standard form I averaged 33MPG on a long drive down to get my map installed. Be warned though, to get these kind of figures I've been concentrating a lot! To get 30-33 isn't too hard, anything more than that and you've got to be very wary of throttle usage.

16MPG day to day usage either means you're sitting in traffic all the time or you're absolutely flooring it everywhere. That or your car is broken.

It does involve plenty of traffic and flooring it. 30mpg plus would be great for the trip to France otherwise I might as well get an airplane over! This is real mpg measured though. The trip computer is very optimistic. Looks like I'm running the same map as you.

Oh I understand that, believe me. My last car was an Astra VXR and on days where I wasn't flooring it, I would practice my efficient driving. I even got 41 MPG up the motorway coming back from Alton Towers to Newcastle. Being an old man, using engine breaking and slip streaming I was repeatedly able to get a 45 average on the car, which realistically is probably about 40.

A workmate has an 08 plate ST Mondeo, he uses it for local trips and drives it as intended you could say, his long term average - over around 5k miles - from his OBC and phone fuel app thingy is.... 17mpg

I,by comparison, average 22mpg from my e39 530i Auto although I do tend to waft around in it, it too will happly drop into the teens if I hoon it.

People said that about my VXR though, and I hoofed it about occasionally. I never saw less than 23mpg.

I wouldn't have been one of them!

I wouldn't expect a relatively modern lightweight car such as an Astra to be heavy on fuel, VXR or not tbh.

From experience, albeit of older cars, I'd not expect great mpg from any six pot!

The 2.5 is five, so not as bad as a 6..
