Mondeo 2.5T MPG

Bit of an update!

Had mine since December and so far so good. I started out using a tank a week, averaging 350 miles, and now a tank is lasting 1.5-2 weeks. My last tank gave me 432.5 miles at roughly 29-30mpg

I'm getting 16-18mpg most of the time, but it's all stop start crap here. On the motorway it's usually above 30mpg. I literally do about 4k miles a year so consumption so not much of an issue, not at 76p a litre either atm :)

Had the car just under 2 months now and I've been impressed so far.

Glad to see another happy owner!

I've actually been experimenting with driving a slightly longer way to work. It would seem that my normal route isn't great - the change of route put my MPG from 28.5 to 30.2 :D

When I had my Focus ST (same engine) I got about 25mpg mixed driving. Most I could eek out of it on a long motorway journey was bout 31-32mpg.

I am sure 35mpg is possible if you stick to 50-60mph for eons but I think it is unrealistic to expect much more than 30mpg.

Oh dear, I was looking at Fords with the 2.5 turbo as a "downsize" and wee money saver. I was looking at Mondeo and Focus ST, but also seen the guy on here with the Titanium X sport Mondeo with the 2.0 ecoboost engine and REALLY like the look of that!

I have a 2.8 turbo V6 Saab 9-3. It's running 320bhp and I do about 6k per year mixed. Get 33mpg on long runs (100 miles on 60/70 roads with overtaking) and I get 23/24 average back and forth to work which is 30/40 roads with roundabouts etc.

I want to downsize to something less thirsty, and not £500 road tax. I guess the Fords you guys speak of are no go :( I'm more inclined to just take the hit as I simply cannot give up my manly engine for something small and whiney now, have any of you ever went from these bigger growly engines to something "lesser" and not been bothered? Or did you all feel like me?

Apologies for going slightly OT guys.

how about a Saab 9-5 aero? 285 to tax and will easily do 300bhp. 9-5 aero is averaging 28mpg that is with school run and 13 mile commute. A proper motorway cruise I get high 30's with the cruise set to 70. The engines in these things were well ahead of their time.
