Hello chaps.

My current PC is nearing 4 years old. Longest I have ever has a PC without a major upgrade! I was daft enough to let MS install the free Win 10 a few weeks back, been a pain ever since. Decided if I am going to re-install Win 7 then I might as well do it on hardware.

I would be very grateful if some of you Guru's could spec me a PC. (I am not very current). While budget is genuinely not an issue, I do not need complete overkill.

I use my PC for games and work (trading / spreadsheets / news-wires).

I want a 4k G-Sync IPS screen (27 -32")
A midi tower - aluminium (or keep my existing Lian Li)
Latest Intel CPU
16gb RAM (min)
512 / 1TB SSD for boot disk
High end Nvidia graphics (not SLI) Watercooled if possible
Water cooling for CPU (sealed single item, like the old Corsair job)
Reliable motherboard (Used Asus for years, no idea if they still good)
Sound card? Have an Asus Xonar, not sure if new products any better?

Thoughts? Virtual beers to anyone who suggest something.

Thanks

Thanks Snips, looks very tasty. However, a wee bit too much for me. But thanks, it gives me a good starter. Never owned a PC I have not built myself (work Dell boxes aside) so could be interesting to have OC build one.

There are cheaper options available and if you've settled on a spec, they will build for you before shipping at an extra cost if required however.

If 7k is soo much, what are you considering "reasonable"?

Also, are you aware that for a decent 4k setup, you'll need 2 GPUs?

Mate, 7k is not too much, I am not constrained by budget. I merely do not want to pay for stuff I do not need such as glowing cooling fluid & other bling.

If you chaps say a multi-VGA solution is needed for 4k screens, then so be it & I will amewnd my spec :D

Snips is correct, no way would you get playable frame rates in newer games @ 4K with one card. It's the reason I'm not going 4K as in not going down the multi GPU root again. I would do as above and go 1440P G sync. Can always DSR to 4K in games where you have room to spare.

Edited after above post.

When I said "too much". I did not mean money, I meant it was overspecced for my needs.

For 1440P, what IPS screens can you guys recommend any? I have read pretty mixed reviews on the Acer.

:D I bet it was the G-Master in the monitor name that threw you.

haha - I actually wasn't reading the names, I was just looking for a 4K panel  That'll learn me :p

Thanks Snips, gets me started. Any reason Gigabyte over Asus? And what brand is the PSU (Flower?) Never heard of them, been away too long. I have a Corsair 850w modular job. Would more power be needed for SLi?

Gigasbyte have UK RMA which is always a bonus. Superflower are currently No1 rated and you cannot go wrong with them, EVGA, XFX or Seasonic. For 2x980Ti, you'd be looking at a min of 850w but taking into consideration any possible over clocks and the fact its X99, I would suggest or at least recommend a 1000w.
