So basically, I want to buy a Dell 2407WFP and some Logitech Z5400's. I would normally do this no problem, but:

1) Nearing the oh so famous age of 17.
2) Relating to point 1, I give you car insurance.

Now, my dad has spent time to find me a car, a 106 or something, a pretty new medium mileage one. Had a browse at confused.com on Sunday, nearly £2K?? I lol'd, then cried.

The other week, when I spent my money on some Xbox stuff, my mum pounced at me like a tiger: "But, car insurance!" Needless to say, I one that time, I'm not sure I can do that again.

Theres no way I can afford that much for insurance on a car which I probably won't use that much and theres no time to earn that much.

So, do I, knowing I can't afford that currently, save it and hope for the best, or just do what I want with my money hoping to win the lottery that I pan on getting a ticket for this week.

Some other notes:

"Theres no way I'm having a child not drive, especially my son" :o

I've been driving stuff since I was 9, I know the highway code fairly well already, and I'm pretty confident that I could get it passed with minimal lessons and first time, but theres no actual urge to do it. Was looking forward to this since I was a kid, but that excitement has gone.

I'm pretty sure if I was to buy the stuff they'd both be equally disappointed even though they haven't spoke in several years.

And to those saying "Get a job you lazy bum" (:p) I looked on Monster earlier, only to find nothing that didn't need A levels and various degrees, I know theres other things around, but I just don't want to do them. :(

Yet another downer that music hasn't been able to cure. I'm seeing this too often now.

PS. I prolly missed a big chunk of important stuff out, was planning the post for a bit but then wanted to get it down quick.

Also, sorry for the naff title, really cba to think of a decent one at this time.

Thanks in advance guys, I'm sure you can bring light to the matter.

Edit: Forgot this, I know its my birthday coming up and all, but, all I'm expecting is driving lessons and various other things, used to be a rather large family, but with 4 grandparents gone in 2 years that changed. Also, noticed my sisters 'cashing in' from this with various things, do I ask if there was any money put aside for me or is that blatantly rude and cheeky? :p

be weary of driving mate., it will all seem fun and games for the first few months but then the taxi missions start and the running costs come out of your pockets, you will soon wish you were back on foot patrol..

I'd by new toys because cars are evil money eating machines best avoided :D
So you have'nt passed your test, whats the rush for insurence anyway? I think you will be suprised by just how long it can take to get done.

Time check: 03:18
Great advice check: Sorta ;)

Thx guys, keep it coming. :)

*Waits for time to change*

Was a suggestion from my mum earlier, I blatantly ignored it as I don't really want debts building up already, would turn out like my sister. :o

Jigalo? :p

Edit: Just a quick one, don't know if I said this or not, but, I don't actually really want a car, everyone seems to be forcing me to have one. :confused:

*Falls asleep at PC*

If someone throws a car at you for free, take it. Pay for the insurance not the computer crap (sorry ocuk :p). Be a MAN!

I ignored driving until this year. Im 22 lol.

If i was 17 again when i had a car left to me, i woulda made effort to pass this time.

However i guess it saved a lot of cash since i never NEEDED my licence until now. (no claims woulda been good tho!)

Go the car route.. Its worth it at your age.

Buy the Dell and worry about the insurance after you pass your test.

Don't waste money on the lottery. Those pounds add up. :p

Get a job, any job. You'll have 2K before you know it and then you can quit.

Do the free money offers. Good for a couple of hundred. ----> Clicky

Does that work?

As for the OP, try and get a little tiny or something? That way you *could* get both.... (as I own a 2407 I'm extremely biased and say you would not regret a purchase).

I think the OP is under 18.

Just get a job at a supermarket... If you're careful with your money, if you're going to go to university you could have a nice chunk to take with you.

If you get a part time job now, it'll look better to potential employers when you come out of uni too.

If not, a nice chunk to spend on a dell tft :)

Probably one of the worst places to go as a new driver. Best to go to the individual sites and get your own quotes.

Admiral are pretty good atm.

It would appear that thinking of a decent title is not the only thing that you cba to do.

Get a job you lazy bum! :p ooops! forgot .....

16 year old may not work:
Before 7am or after 7pm on a school day;
For more than 2 hours on a school day (this can either be 1 hour before and after school or 2 hours after school);
For more than 12 hours in a school week;
For more than 8 hours on a Saturday or a weekday during the school holidays;
For more than 2 hours on any Sunday;
For more than 35 hours in any week during the school holidays;
For more than 4 hours in any day without a rest break of one hour.
A child must also have at least 2 consecutive non-school weeks without employment in any one year. That means every child is entitled to 2 weeks holiday a year.

Been driving since the age of 9 eh? ...... expect to see you challenging on the F1 circuit soon.

"Theres no way I'm having a child not drive, especially my son" ..... What sort of statement is that for an adult to make?

You keep referring to "my money" yet you say you can't be bothered to get a job. Where exactly does your money come from?

Check these guys for your insurance.

http://www.curwins.com/ (dont be put off by the dodgy website), give them a call.

I started using them about 4 years agoi cos my insurance went up, then one by one all my friends and family have started using them too, simply cos they beat any quote offered by anyone else.
