Check these guys for your insurance.

http://www.curwins.com/ (dont be put off by the dodgy website), give them a call.

I started using them about 4 years agoi cos my insurance went up, then one by one all my friends and family have started using them too, simply cos they beat any quote offered by anyone else.

I don't think I ever could... I mean you say don't be put off by website but.....

You keep referring to "my money" yet you say you can't be bothered to get a job. Where exactly does your money come from?

The temp summer job I had. They no longer need me though.

You have more chance of needing to drive somewhere than needing to see something in widescreen.

:o How true is that.

I ideally want a behind the scenes job, although doing a unit of customer care with Leisure and Tourism I just don't feel confident with that yet, if I give out wrong information, that could put my job on the line.

To the selling stuff option, I have a fair bit of old computery stuff that I could sell, But I have no idea what its worth on the bay.

Probably one of the worst places to go as a new driver. Best to go to the individual sites and get your own quotes.

Was just having a broswe, Admiral came up with £3177.30, will put details into some manually closer to the time, I was just having a look to see how short of money I was.

Hows monthly payments of insurance? Endsleigh, who outed me the cheapest offer 11 installments of £159.75 that already works out cheaper than the lump sum, is that a better option to go for?

Also, is that fact that its so high because I love in the middle of nowhere, where no witnesses can see people doing in my car, which they wouldn't because they wouldn't get down the drive before waking someone up.

Thanks for the tips and suggestions guys. :)

The reason it's so high is cos your a 17 year old, male, first time driver. Your officially the insurance companies bitch!

Seriously though give Curwins a call, what have you got to lose?

This seems fairly simple to me. It sounds like you don't want a car. Your dad wanting you to drive is not a good reason to own a car so... don't have one and spend the money on what you like.

Pretty simple really, although you will never be able to ask for a lift anywhere from your parents again.

So let me get this right, you're 16 and yet you can afford a £600 monitor and £140 speaker set? Plus you've already blown a load of cash on some X-box stuff?

Tbh you come across in your post as being rather spoiled and needing to:

a) grow up
b) have a reality check

Your parents are probably keen to get you mobile as it will benefit you in the long run, plus they won't have to keen acting as your own personal taxi service.

So basically, I want to buy a Dell 2407WFP and some Logitech Z5400's. I would normally do this no problem, but:

1) Nearing the oh so famous age of 17.
2) Relating to point 1, I give you car insurance.

Now, my dad has spent time to find me a car, a 106 or something, a pretty new medium mileage one. Had a browse at confused.com on Sunday, nearly £2K?? I lol'd, then cried.

The other week, when I spent my money on some Xbox stuff, my mum pounced at me like a tiger: "But, car insurance!" Needless to say, I one that time, I'm not sure I can do that again.

Firstly, as much as I am a fan of computer toys and gadgets, in 10 years time are you really going to remember that life changing decision of buying a 'Dell 2407WFP'? ... or, will you realise material possessions don't exactly matter that much in life, and driving was the best choice to make.

Secondly, that is a hell of a lot of money to pay for car insurance, i completey see where your coming from as i was in the same situation a few years ago (but i had saved up the money in earlier years). Can't you put your mum is the first driver, your dad as the second and you as the third ... this will make it a lot cheaper.

Some other notes:

"Theres no way I'm having a child not drive, especially my son" :o

At the end of the day its what you think that matters, not your parents.

And to those saying "Get a job you lazy bum" (:p) I looked on Monster earlier, only to find nothing that didn't need A levels and various degrees, I know theres other things around, but I just don't want to do them. :(

And you think the people actually working in "the other things around" want to do them either??? If you want to get money to do and buy things, work for it.

This might sound silly so forgive me, but if you don't want a car, don't get one?

Tell your folks you don't want/need one, if they say they want you to have one then your reply is well you're paying for it then imho!

As fo rjobs, I've long maintained anyone can get a job, just because an employment website like Monster, which is aimed at older people I'd have thought, doens' thave stuff doesn't mean there's nothing around.

Cars are the biggest money pits in the world, you put so much cash in and get naff all back, personally I wouldn't bother :p

/me wanders back off to motors...

I was lucky, when I was 17 car insurance was a lot more reasonable. However, when I turned 17 I still couldn't afford it so I got a motorbike instead. If you do your CBT and bike test and get a cheap s/h bike like a Suzuki GS125 or a Honda CG125 you'll be mobile, and save on tax insurance and fuel.

no car = no job in a lot of places, unless you live in a city a center.

Could sell you car and get a decent run around (£1000-1500) cheaper on insurance, plus maybe have a bit of change left, depends how much the 106 is worth.

Material things wise (ie, excluding people), nothing and I mean NOTHING beats driving.

It is awesome. Owning a car is even better. I was NOT bothered about learning at all, and just did it becuase hey, it was expected.

Wow. Best thing ever.

Just be careful or you will end up with like... more than one car :o

I was exactly the same. My step father was into his cars but I really wasn't that interested.

I passed and then something went wrong....

Fox, Ev0 and the other guys voting for the car win.

:)

Cheers for the help guys, you should all become an agony aunt for a paper or something. :p

Theres the problem, welcome to the big bad world. Get a job and save the money and pay for both things. You will hit your self in later years for not sorting your insurance now.

Apologies if this has been answered already, but wheres your money coming from? I'm 20 with a job while at uni and can't afford gadgets like that - let alone a car.

Just a thought that if all your income's coming from your parents, maybe they should have a say in how it's spent? Maybe they dont want you spending it all on a bigger monitor for a reason.. ?
