Money Transfer / Currency Conversion

My grandparents are looking to transfer some money from a Canadian account to over here. They have been recommended a company called Currency Direct, as they offer a better exchange rate than Alliance & Leicester (who they bank with), but I wanted to look into how reputable / western union ish they are, and if there were any better alternatives.

Has any one used / heard of Currency Direct, or know how I can compare the different companies that offer these services?

Any help appreciated.

I have never used any currency house before, but I do work in a foreign exchange and transfer team at a large international bank. We get lots of customers comparing us with these currency houses, and most of the time they seem to offer better rates. The popular ones are Foreign Currencies Direct, HiFX, TorFX and Curriences Direct. I collague once used FDC and no problem sending money to Italy. They had great communtication with with one. Although the rate was better, the charge was higher. I'm not sure how much you are looking to transfer, but most banks and currencies house will offer preferential rate depending on how much you transfer.

Also to add, these companies to do operate like Westion Union, so you shouldn't have any problems.
