Hi

A good friend of mine is looking to transfer a large sum of money abroad for an investment. He originally was going to do it through Western Union, but they will charge him quite a lot for the transfer.

Does anyone know of any other companies (cheaper) to transfer money?

Thanks!

lol! Curiousity killed the cat!!! :p

Hes investing in a Petrol station in pakistan, suppose to be the next big thing over there! Dont worry, hes not buying something off some dodgy Nigerian via that internet auction site.

So any ideas lads? Were talking about 1/4 of a mill last time i spokme to him.

For such a large sum of money he should really be doing this through his bank unless he's trying to keep the transfer under cover for whatever reason ;)

For someone with such a large amount of money to invest, shouldn't he be consulting his bank or some sort of financial advisor rather than getting his mate to ask on a computing forum?

Still sounds dodgy.

Anyone investing that sort of money should get someone who really knows what they're doing to look everythign over, not get a mate to ask around on an internet forum.

Yea? Good stuff.

So then people, is there any other way?

Well let me put it this way:

Anyone investing £250,000 overseas who doesn't want to get it checked proffessionally is probably up to something dodgy themselves, otherwise it makes no sense whatsoever.

I missed your first post Mr Scuzi! A bank does seem like the most logical answer, but there must be a good reason why hes not using his. Dont know why though! Its not a dodgy, dont be soo quick to judge people!

he's willing to put 1/4 of a mill into a company , but wants to know whether to use western union ? lol :o

If he/your serious , its something his accountant should be sorting out ideally. Id be over the there personally with my acc / advisor

I can't think of a good reason not to use a bank unless something dodgy is going on or the charges are beyond extortionate, and for this sum of money I think a bank would probably be cheaper than any other method. Suggest to him he use a bank for security and peace of mind.

i doubt hes gonna get a good return, petrol stations over there do good business, but not worth investing 1/4 of a mill in, his best bet is to get hold of the persons bank details, an go down to that banks uk branch to transfer the cash e.g. ubl, or national bank of pakistan

It doesn't sound as if your friend has much business knowledge or nous if he doesn't know how to transfer the money, or how to find out how to do it (like asking his bank).

Okie doke. ill suggest that to him. There must be a legitimate reason why hes not using the bank, ill have to ask him and tell you his reply. That way ill know if he's doing something dodgy. ;)

Of course he can ask his bank aswell...but wheres the harm in asking 100's of people on a popular forum the cheapest way? (apart from being accused of dodgyness etc)
