i recently got a Hanns G 28" (amazing monitor)
Now when i play games my GPU over heats after say 10 mins then my PC auto shuts down.
whats up with that ?

My gfx card says it supports 1290x1200 so whats the problem ?
Its like one bad thing after another here, can i at least get a break ?!
(recently paid for a new system with a defect with one of its components RMA'd)

Any clues as to why its causing it to over heat ? Like i understand the GPU needs to work harder the higher the resolution but still... Doesn't this mean it will just overheat in my new rig once my card goes in there ?
im using a BFG GTX 9800 1GB + OC on a 28" screen with no AA on my games.

A gpu overheating doe'snt autoshut down a computer from what i've seen first sign is artifacts on the screen then a blue screen or a hard lockup, what are your cpu and gpu temps when running the games?. If it just suddenly switches of at random at high load i would suspect the psu though.

I wasnt planning on getting a new card, was gonna use my 9800 GTX from this computer in my new one.

I dont understand why the PSU is kicking out, there is no difference except im using a bigger screen, that has nothing to do with the PSU of my PC ?
The GPU goes so hot i can just about touch it so i know its that.

Cant see any dust in the fan :s

The size of the screen will not make any difference, but the resolution will. Have you substantially gone up resolutions compared with what you had on the old monitor?

Yes, i was running games on 1290x1200, they used to be 1680x1050

Why would my GPU overheat if it says it can support 1290x1200 ?
I want that high resolution :(

Thanks for the heads up PayN, i will lower the res now and see if it works :)

It should work, and it doesn't -sound- like an overheating problem, but your GPU will draw more power at higher resolutions, so it does sound like possibly the PSU can't handle it. Any idea what the wattage of it is?

whats the case ventilation like, you need to push air in and extract it

if the psu is marginal and its fan is the main air extractor from the case it may be overheating due to a double wammy of more hot air in the case and that air going through the psu.

Other cpossibilities are the cpu overheating and shutting down, is its fan and heatsink properly clipped down?
