Hi guys I'm looking to dabble on a new monitor. I'm looking for some advice please. I'm downgrading my system to handle 1080P gaming opposed to 1440P.

I'd like to get the best 1080P screen i can that the colours look amazing and it performs extremely well for gaming.

So currently I'm looking between the...
Samsung LC27FG73
Samsung C27FG70
LG 34UC79G

Can anyone recommend me anything better or give me advice on the above please? What is the difference between the two Samsung's please or is it purely the stand?

For the C27FG70 v C27FG73 the main difference is the stand https://forum.pcmonitors.info/topic/cfg73/
Both monitors use the same panel, but the C27FG73 apparently has had some of the slight issues of the C27FG70 fixed. These are both excellent monitors, in terms of colours (125% sRBG coverage) and deep blacks due to the VA panel. The addition of a strobing backlight makes gameplay incredibly responsive, much more so than other 144hz panels without strobing.

I would however say that I think that 27in is too large for 1080p, the 24in variant of these monitors would be better not only for gaming but also for pixel 'sharpness' (as pixels are more obvious on the 27in).

For the LG monitor, it's an ultrawide which has a variety of benefits such as increased screen real-estate for multitasking, and for creating a more immersive experience in games. The IPS panel creates excellent colours, although not as deep as the blacks created on the VA panel used in the Samsung. Also, IPS monitors suffer from 'IPS glow' which some find annoying. For highly competitive fast-paced games such as CSGO, I think the monitor would be too large. The low resolution would also be particularly noticeable when not in games, and maybe even also in games.

Either of the 3 monitors you linked would have better colours than TN panels. If gaming would be your main use, I would choose the 24in version of the Samsung - the C24FG70 or C24FG73. However, the LG monitor could make some games more immersive, it just probably won't be as good in really fast-paced shooters.

What GPU would you be using for these monitors?

yup everything been said already. btw I have just bought a C24FG73. Upgrading from a 10 year old Samsung 24" 1920x1200 60hz

As for the LG, again IPS so pro/con. It's 144hz, but at 34" it's too big for the resolution. Plus the god awful IPS bleed has put me off IPS screens 100%.

27" also same PPI 1080p as the 34" LG. Reason why I went for 24" 1080p.

Thank you for the detailed response. Hugely appreciated! I think it's between the 24" and the 27" of the samsung. The Quantum Dot technology sounds really good.

How do you find the colours on this screen please? I'm worried a 24" might be too small as I've always had 27". If you could pop some photos up if you have time i would really appreciate that

Go for the 24". If you want 27", that means the £600/£650 new samsung. In fact with 1440, you could go for the 32". Either way a lot more than the £250 on the 24" 144hz samsung.

Screen will be here next week.

I currently have a 1080ti but obviously wont benefit from the freesync. The price has got me really interested with the samsung range. You seem to get a lot for your money!

I've had the 24in Samsung monitor, and I really did like the colours. A huge step-up from my TN monitor.

Here's a detailed review of the C24FG70 - https://pcmonitors.info/reviews/samsung-c24fg70/

If you have a 1080ti, you could also be looking at some 1440p G-sync monitors (although these do cost a lot more than the monitors in this thread).

Unfortunately most high-end 1440p IPS g-sync monitors often suffer from IPS glow, aswell as being incredibly expensive for what you get. There are some Dell TN monitors that are very positively reviewed (Dell 2417DG and Dell S2716DG) but these are of course TN monitors and so won't offer colours comparable to the 3 in this thread.

I think my plan was to sell the 1080ti and move over to freesync, Grab a samsung monitor and an amd card. I'll check that link out now :)
Yeah i think the 1080p variants are nice. I think 1440P is going be too much of a push

I'm using it now, and just loading a few games up. One thing is the stand makes it sit quite far back.

Whites are very white. Freesync is working
Colours do look far more vivid than the TN 6 bit panel.

Power cable is a bit short, uses it's own brick not IEC (I have long IEC cables)

Have you enabled strobing yet to see how more responsive gameplay becomes?

Also, a video I found really shows off the superior colours over a TN panel https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iNJdPyoqt8U

how do you enable strobing? I have it in sRGB picture mode, which seems to disable some settings
Within the OSD, go to Game > Response time and change from 'Standard' to 'Faster or Fastest', both enable strobing.

See the benefits yourself, do the UFO test to compare with and without strobing.

I leave mine on the standard picture preset, 'Custom'.

What does the strobing do for game play please? I'm interested in picking one of these up but I have a 1080ti so I won't be able to use freesync but If this strobing is worth while and disables freesync anyways it might be worth me taking the plunge on one!
