Hi,

I dont really know anything about monitors so could you please advise a good upgrade that will be ready for my next PC upgrade from the rig in my spec.

My current monitor is a NEC Multisync 24WMGX3 - 24"
Looking for something 30-32"
I game (COD/Battlefield etc), want to be able to go higher res at my next pc upgrade (4k?)
Current gfx card is MSI 7970 Boosted edition (connected to monitor via DVI)

Can go up to around £500

Thanks

I am thinking of mounting the new monitor on the wall in front of my computer - so I will only be sat around 2-3ft away from it
I have a max gap of just over 1m to fit the monitor into - I am thinking that any larger than 32" would be too much for my eyes to cope with when gaming (or am I wrong)?

I picked up a cheapo monitor (in my sig) and that's a 32" IPS 144hz which I use for working from home (just coding all text based as well as usual MS office apps and email), but it was purchased primarily with gaming in mind. I sit about a foot and a half to 2 feet away and it's perfect. Took a few hours of pube g to get used to, but it's perfect for gaming on. Only drawback is that it's still only 1080p, but I'd only be using 1440p for desktop based app use not gaming. Size wise, I was a little concerned it would be too big, but it's ideal.

Thanks for the info
Is it worth me spending the extra £'s for higher res?
I was looking for a higher res monitor to future proof my gaming more, I am also looking for it to have good connectibility (to work on my current gfx card for now until I upgrade)

i would try and stretch (no pun intended) to a 3440x1440 if you can, simply due to the size of the screen. could also try the members market, for some insane reason people sometimes sell their 21:9s! mentalists:)

I dont have access to the MM unfortunately - even though I have been an active member since 2008 :-(

Will my current gfx card cope ok at the higher res if I turn everything down - until I can upgrade?

You need to post harder good sir :)

3440x1440 is a little over twice the pixels of 1920x1200. Drop your details, halve the fps you get, then take off a bit more... won't be a gazillion miles off. How much GPU memory do you currently have? My guess is you'd be at risk of running short, which is hard to simulate/guesstimate up front.

Remember, higher the res then more graphical power you need to run it (and no way in hell is that 7970 going to power a 3440 res monitor). You'll probably need a Vega64 or 1080 to run it at decent levels.

Yes I understand that.
I will run at lower res until I can upgrade my gfx card.

Any other monitors that I should consider (cheaper)?

Thanks

For what it's worth, as I am no expert in monitors at all, I just bought this on sale (only £48 over your £500) https://www.overclockers.co.uk/sams...-hdr-widescreen-curved-monitor-mo-235-sa.html

Quite frankly i'm blown away by it. Everything from the build quality through to the picture quality. Being VA the detail you get in dark games is amazing and no IPS glow/blb. Factory calibration is great as I don't own one of them gadgets myself. Its 1440 / 144Hz, nice gentle curve and has the quantum dots thing. You can easily set up 3 profiles and switch on the fly, which is great for moving between games and web browsing. (I do find it very bright for browsing, so turn brightness down and there is an eye-saver mode which i'm not 100% sure on atm).

My only challenge with it is the stand - whilst it gives a great amount of height adjustment, it's very deep and my desk is quite shallow, so I might have to buy a wall/desk mount arm thing for it.
