What would be the maximum length I could use for an analogue (D-SUB) monitor cable without losing picture quality ? I suppose the quality of the cable will play some part in this ?

A quick google search showed it to be reliant on bandwidth used (resolution, refresh rate), cable quality and obviously the source quality, power, and acceptable loss. Saw people claiming 75-125' without boosting with no problems.

Don't skimp on the quality, it can make a big difference even over short lengths.

yeah i did google but various lengths mentioned.... i thought somebody may know from using a long cable themselves..... cheers

probably no more than 10 metres..... will be pumping the signal to an LCD TV, hopefully at 1920 x 1080....

I use ten metres going from my secoundry PC to my LCD tv, it's mainly just for streaming videos but I have surfed the net on it a few times, I do find that text on screen had a little bit of ghosting, only ever so slightly but when I use a shorter cable I don't have that problem, apart from that though it's fine.

out of intrest what are you using the cable for ?

I recently did a Plasma install using a 15m cable. I did buy a high quality (although no fancy shiny connectors or packaging) cable with excellent screening properties. No problems at all.

In the manual for my LG LCDTV it says don't use a VGA cable longer than 5m, and that's only 1366*768.

I have a 10m Vga cable from my PC to LCD tv @1366x768.
(Bedroom > Living Room)

Good quality cable (cheap on ebay) no ghosting at all.
