Monitor - Curved or Flat

Just wanted to get an idea what the general feelings are from everyone on the forum as to whether they'd prefer a curved or flat monitor. Especially interested in hear from those who currently own curved monitors.

I'll be the first to admit I didn't really see any point in a curved TV as you're never sitting in the 'sweet spot' where you'd potentially get benefit from the curve. I had a look at a few TV's today and the curve on them is pretty subtle and not particularly noticeable on movies/tv but I suspect it would be on a windows desktop.

I'm specifically interested in buying a new 34" 21:9 monitor and struggling to decide whether to get a curved or flat model? Price isn't really much of an issue as they all typically range from £700-900-ish in terms of cost so purely want to get the best monitor available for that price.

I'd like to go for an IPS model and I'm happy with 60Hz. I'd also like a large enough monitor with plenty of real estate so that I can replace my dual 1080p monitor setup. I'm worried about windows apps I use not supporting 4k so want something that can run at 100% scaling. I could have grabbed a couple of 16:9 1440p displays but 21:9 seems like a better compromise as dual monitors just means craning my neck at an awkward angle when using one of them.

There are a few threads discussing curved displays on the specific monitor threads but I thought it would be nice to have a separate one for discussing the merits of flat vs curved.

What are everyone's thoughts? Which do you reckon I should buy?

I can't advise what to buy but I stood in front of a curved TV the other day at about 'monitor viewing distance' and I really liked it, would love a curved monitor if I had the cash to burn.

Yeah, after standing in front of a few of the televisions my current overall feeling is that the current crop of curved television are largely just curved for cosmetic reasons purely because manufacturers are able to do it rather than any practical purpose.

I still think it's largely pointless for a television in a living room where multiple people are trying to view it at one but I can see the appeal for a computer monitor which just one person is sitting close to.

Curved 34" 21:9 monitors look absolutely gorgeous. Its the perfect use case for curved displays...ridiculously immersive. If I didn't need to multitask so much I'd swap my two monitors for a curved 34" in a heart beat.

And that 8K display was 120 Hz!

I very much doubt I'll go for a curved monitor any time soon. They force you to sit in one particular position and I've not seen anything about their suitability for portrait use.
