Monitor doesn't recognise input if powered on after machine

Hi,

If I power on my machine before turning on my Dell U2312HM then when I do turn the monitor on it goes straight to sleep and only recognises input if switched on before turning my machine on. I've RMA'd one monitor and the same happens with the replacement.

Connected with a DVI cable.

Any ideas?

Thanks

My windows xp and windows 7, goes into default resolution if the PC is turned on before the monitor....and sometimes looses screen setup completely and I have to re-configure.

Generally, I go to screen and click on 'detect' and that works 80% of the time...till it doesn't
Don't bother to 'restore' as it does not work.

Yours is a bit different, I know but inherently related.

Go into bios and change "Init Display First" from Auto, or disable Internal graphics entirely. The on-board graphics is taking priority when no monitor is detected by the dedicated graphics card.

You've fixed it! Changed Init Display First from Auto to PEG. Does the internal graphics ever get used e.g. for less graphics intensive activities?

Thank you!!!

here's a wild suggestion. leave it on standby like 99.9% of other people do. :p

if you really must turn it off then turn it on before the pc. it can't be that hard to remember.
