Monitor fix?

I have a 19" Widescreen Acer monitor, and it will turn on when I boot up my pc, or turn it on by the power, the power light will remain on, but the screen will go black after about 3 seconds without fail. After a bit of googling, it says it's most likely a backlight issue, or a capacitor issue. How much is it likely to cost to fix such an issue, or should I say, how much SHOULD it cost (baring in mind I'll be taking it to the high-street).

PS, if there's anyone who knows exactly what the problem is, would it be possible to fix myself?

Depends how much the screen is worth to you really. Taking to the high street isn't really an option as cost would be high.

You could try to fix yourself, it's likely to be one of 3 things...

1. PSU caps
2. Inverter transformer
3. CCFL backlight tubes

1 and 2 are less than a tenner to do yourself and not overly difficult if you can use a soldering iron. Number 3 is a little more expensive (around £20-30) and a lot more difficult as you have to completely strip the panel just to access the CCFL tubes.

You can fairly easily check the caps for bulging/leaking and if you have a multimeter you can test the transformer easily too.

I'll post a couple of links for you shortly if you want to look at the repair yourself. I'm in the middle of trying to repair my Samsung. It's had new caps, new transformer and has been stripped in preparation for new tubes which are on the way from the states.
