Monitor Flickers When Opening and Closing Video Files on ATI 4870 with Catalyst 8.11 and 8.12 drivers
Has anyone else noticed this ?, the problem never existed with 8.10 drivers

I do understand the problem and Cause and should be able to fix it but would be interested to hear if anyone else has experienced/noticed it

I had this on my 4870, its when the clocks change from desktop speed to a higher or lower speed when you play something like HD content. I found out that if you overclock the memory, the clock will go from your overclock speed to the stock speed when playing a movie file causing the screen to flicker, only way I could stop this was to keep the memory at stock speed so it does not change when playing back movies, you could just create a profile for your card for desktop use with the memory at stock and one for gaming.

Cheers Ravenxxx2, Yes it it the memory clock change that causes this momentary flicker and My card does change to its UVD profiles for what looks like most types of video playback
As I never noticed this with the 8.10 cats it would seem that was not the case !

I can't believe there are not a few People out there with this issue !
So it's not really worth Me saying anything more on what is actually more than a little "eye opener" on memory settings ;)

I have the same thing - it is related to the memory clock speed change.

:D Cheers, Ati/partners have generally realized switching Memory clocks causes this so most bioses leave the memory clocks fixed throughout the powerplay phases, It seems 8.11 and newer now picks up the types of loading more accurately and is calling the UVD profile which for You and Me has a different memory clock.

Now the really interesting thing about this is I have got My system down to 129/130 watts in the desktop....I use 10watts less playing a video :D (with more vcore on the card and some HD activity !!

I know what direction I'm going when I do a couple of new bioses....bring on the flicker into 3D mode I say ! :D
