Monitor not reading signal from 5850

Basically, I ordered my 5850 last week and had not installed it yet. Was still using my old 4870 (Vista 64). Anyway, turned on my PC today only to find a crazy amount of artifacting. Red, purple, everywhere, all over the whole screen! It only started after being in Windows for about 5 mins or so.

So, I first checked all connections were ok and that the fan was running. No problems, still, the artifacting persisted. So, I took the card out and thought, why not just install the new one.

Stuck the 5850 in, but all I get is fan speeds and full whack, but no signal on the monitor, even though I'm pretty sure the monitor is working just fine. Just says no signal received on the monitor.

Any ideas? Again, all connections are fine. Card is installed properly with plenty of power. Everything else lights up fine, cpu, gpu, fans etc. GPU fan sounds like it's at 100%, but still no signal on screen. What's up?

Any help would be greatly appreciated :(

if u can connect it to a HDTV or other output source and set the monitor back as default then reboot keeping both sources on at same time......id also reinstall the latest driver set ...thou u might need to make the monitor the main screen again .....gl

Ok, so I just connected to my plasma via DVI to HDMI. Still no signal, just 100% GPU fan volume, everything else on inside etc. Any ideas?

Ok, so basically, I did a reset via the mobo, no dice. I then took out the card and re-installed it. This time without the screws in place. And low and behold it was recognised straight away. Then applied the screws and it was still fine. No idea exactly what went wrong, but either way, for now, it's working.

Was likely an issue with how it was connecting to the motherboard, despite being fitted just fine. Maybe it doesn't like a specific angle or something, who knows. Or maybe it just needed a proper reset. Hmmm...
