Right, well I'm planning on getting something I can watch TV on (with a freeview card in my PC) and use as a monitor. I was wondering if anyone could give me some ideas on a specific monitor or LCD TV.

Requirements:
- I need to be able to see it clearly from a distance (10ft - 15ft away). Not sure what sort of size monitor for this...

- Need mount on my wall when I want to watch TV/Films, and stand on my desk when I want to do coursework / PC related things.

- Within the £300-400 price range.

Thanks a lot!

Kris.

(will get the DSLR some other time :p )

More info needed. Do you need to read text from 10-15', or will you sit closer when using it as a monitor?

At your budget you're looking at 32" 730p LCD set. For films at your distance it's a bit too small. As a primary monitor it's a bit too low resolution (for the size)

Sorry, wasn't clear.

I'll only need to view it from a distance when watching films / playing games. But when I want to do work on the computer I'll sit closer, so no, wont really need to read text from 10-15ft away.
I'm not sure how comfortable an LCD TV will be when I'm sat close reading text.

We have an Acer 26" LCD TV here connected via DVI.
At its native resolution (1360x768) and clear type font forums are very readable from 4-5 feet distance. :)

Do you have the model number for it?

Hmmm, how is it for word processing? Readable? As long as I can read text etc from a few ft away I dont mind. If its a 26" monitor I'd just move the keyboard back a bit. :)

I'm using a 32" LCD TV & sitting 1.5m away is just about ok at the native 1360x768 res, wish I had more dosh as I'd be able position the sofa in a bit less ridiculous a position :p

Well the current contenders are the following:

Viewpia LC-32IEF4 - 32"

£339.99

Or the Samsung LE23R86 - 32"

£409.99

Thought the samsung price was too good to be true... Noticed the black version of the same model number is a 23" model - same price too :( 23" might be big enough..

32" samsung tvs are NOT suitable as monitors

ive got one, i thought that i could do away with my 19" samsung monitor, but i was wrong.

css , for instance, is rubbish on a 32" tv

Anyone else find this?

I've got a mate on msn telling me a 32" screen will be fine, and will be better for films. But I wouldn't fancy buying one and finding it was useless for office work / gaming up close.

Personally I would go for the 24 inch Samsung monitor, should be perfectly watchable at 10 feet unless you're half blind. Plus you have the advantage of it being an awesome PC monitor too...

However ideally you would want to save a bit more and pick up a 1080p 37inch Toshiba for around £700 ;)

I used a 26inch Samsung LCD TV for a while, it was good for films and games but not brilliant for general use due to the quite low resolution. Stuff was readable just not enough space on screen for me!

Looks like i'll be holding on for the Samsung 245B, will b in New Zealand when it gets released so looks like I'll b waiting until September! Should be some reviews / price drops by then :)

Few pics of Acer 26" LCD TV at 1360x768 taken from couple of feet away.
Actual picture looks better, but sharpness is pretty much accurate.

Thanks for the photos! How much did that cost? For the money I might go for the 24" Samsung, it can display 1080p and will look pretty clear used with my PC.
