Monitor Problem I think ?

Was cleaning my monitor screen this morning and noticed that I have some kind of smudging of text etc:

Its as though someone has rubbed there finger along the text from left to right.

I have tried different refresh rates and various settings on the screen but its still there. Also upon looking closer inspection of my screen I have noticed that there is are bands of blurring running down the screen about one third and 2 thirds across. Is this impending doom of something about to die.

Monitor: Viewsonic VA2216W
Grfx: nVidia Geforce 8800 GTX 768 - using the latest drivers from Nvidia.

turn cleartype off

turn off clear type and try auto adjust to see if its focus problem

Try lowering the contrast. Are you connecting via VGA or DVI?
