Monitor recommendation

Hi Guys

My syncmaster 226BW is on it's way out and I need to buy a new monitor. My budget is below £200.

I have the radeon 5770 GPU which has HDMI so i guess it would be useful to have a monitor that will take HDMI.

I can't get a monitor any bigger than a 24" in my unit and I mainly use it for browsing, blu ray and gamin MOH etc

I haven't tried 3d gaming and I'm not sure if it would be worth moving to a 3d monitor just in case

Any advice would be great

Thanx

If you are using it for games at all I would strongly suggest getting a monitor with 2-3ms response time. Any higher is not recommended for games (5ms can be an exception in some cases).

Iiyama ProLite B2409HDS 24"

This is the cheapest 2ms monitor I can find and is 24 inches. You'll find that the Iiyama range is quite popular on here.

If you ask me - it's a bargain.

you wont notice 2ms or 6 ms imo

rather than pay for a 1ms screen over a 6 ms screen u wont be able to see the diference i guess go for higher res the better

at least get 1200p on a 24" imo

When i 1st turn the 226BW on it flashes like mad for asbout a minute then settles down as normal. The time it flashes seems to be increasing all the time. Once it settles it is fine. I just don't want to wait until it goes completely. I have been looking at the Samsung S23a700D as it seems a very good deal at the moment

I got one of the samsungs from here a couple of weeks back when they were going for £200... Have only just started playing games on the pc again so can't really comment about any ghosting issues, but is a really nice screen for the price. 120Hz is amazing, colours really bright (possibly too bright, I've got a dell IPS for photo editing), and viewing angles seem ok. Pseudo 3D is possibly a bit of a gimmick but does a passable job. Think he VAT back offer runs out on Monday so need to be quick to save the £35 odd.

I'm just waiting for next pay check and will probs get another 2 for surround.

Doesn't have any VESA mounts which is the only real drawback, although they're so light I'm seriously considering mounting it with that industrial strength Velcro stuff.

That's the classic symptoms of the failing capacitors. It's a really really easy fix and the new caps will cost you no more than a few £'s. the link I gave in my last post explains it very clearly.

Thanks for your response I have just purchased the 3 capacitors at a total cost of a massive £1.37 so nothing to lose and I will attempt the repair.

I purchased the capacitors as described but I believe the 226BW has a slightly different size. I purchased 2 x 1000uf 25v and 1 x 470uf 25v bit i now find the 226bw has 2 x 820uf 25v and 1 330uf 25v. Will this small difference cause any problems?

Voltage is ok so long as they are the same or higher, but AFAIK they need to be the same uf value, you'd be best to open your monitor and check as its really easy to do and you'll instantly be able to confirm what caps you have.

From what I know there are a few variations of the PSU boards, so it'd be best to double check.

I would recommend you get Panasonic or nichicon caps - high temp (105c) with low ESR rather than cheap rubbish as you'll end up replacing them again.

Oh and not sure how good your soldering is, but these links should help you out too if you're stuck...
