Monitor repair

Yes, 1000UF at 16V should be fine. I have a bit of spare time this week so I might get up in the loft and have a look for my soldering iron and if I find it I may go and get some capacitors from faplin's (or a place that sounds like faplin). Its the same capacitors that have blown in my monitor.

I take it you have seen my thread on taking this monitor apart to repair it (I will link it here in case anyone else wants to do a repair on one of these monitors)

They look fine (low ESR and high temp 105c which is critical), just make sure the lead spacing is the same or very close and that they are not too tall or wide to fit in the available space.

Just to the left the other side of the heatsink is another cap the same as the 2 in your pic, I'd change that too. I originally only replaced the 2 in your pic as they were the only ones with any bulge. That repair only lasted about 6 months cos I'd used a couple of equally crappy old caps to replace them.

Anyway I got some decent Panasonic FRs but I only replaced the same 2 as they were bulging again. This repair barely lasted 8 weeks before I had problems again. I took the monitor apart but this time everything looked fine. It was only as I looked closer I realised the the cap the other side of the heatsink was the same as the other 2, so I replaced it. Wasn't expecting much cos it looked and measured perfect unlike when I had replaced the other 2 but hey presto it did the trick. That was 2 months ago and fingers crossed seems ok so far.

As AtaRo mentioned unless you got or know someone with an account Farnell will sting you with a minimum order of £20. FWIW these are the ones I used.

UPDATE- well I changed the 2 bulging capacitors (the 2 that are shown in bru's picture in the first post) and the monitor now works. I was given the monitor by a forum member as he was going to throw it away. I put his screen in my moniter (same model) as my screen had screen burn. So this monitor i replaced the capacitors in has the screen burn but it will do for someone i know to use as a second screen.
