I have a rig set up, just theres one thing stopping me from doing this - the monitor.

My main problem is not having much room on my desk. My room is very small and my desk is between two walls which only measures up to 3ft (91.5cm). I want dual screens just i dont know what size to go for. Also i have the issue if i need to go widescreen or non-widescreen.

I was going to have 2 19" widescreen but i was worried about not having much height for my photoshop work and video editing. So i was thinking 2 19" non-widescreen. Then i was thinking a 19" non-widescreens and a 22" widescreen. Its all very confusing.

So if you were in my position with very little space on your desk what would you do?

Thanks for any comments, Ben.

You should be able to figure out what will/won't fit by looking at the size specs for a few of the monitors you are looking at. They usually have the overall length including the bezel (rather than just the visible screen length) listed.

For instance SM226BW is 514mm -

And then say you put an SM960BF next to it which is 420mm -

So that wouldn't fit with the screens parallel, but might do if they're both facing in a bit. Should be able to figure it out with the help of a tape measure.

Fit the biggest I could!

Either 1 x 19" 4:3 and 1 x 22" ws or two 19" 4:3

The height of a 19" 4:3 monitor is almost the same as a 22" ws.

It all depends why you want two screens?

Unless dual screens is an absolute must I would get a 24" screen.

The reason i need dual screens is that i am going to be doing a lot of multi tasking including video editing and photo editing. I need the space to have lots of programs up.

Its just if i should get 2 19" 4:3 or one 19" 4:3 and a 22" widescreen.

The only reason why i want widescreen is because ive heard they are so much better for gaming, and ultimatley i want it for a gaming/high end programs (photoshop/premiere) pc.

Not really to me it just looks like 4:3 stretched out on a widescreen depends if the game is true widescreen POV or not i guess. How about the cheapest 17" you can find and a decent 22"?

Why 17" and 22" ?

Well if ones for working on and ones for games why not get a cheapo 17" for the work and a decent 22" for games and films etc unless your doing photographic work of course then you'd need a crt.

Personally I wouldn't touch the 2407-HC until the ghosting problem was solved.

Back OT though, 17" non-w/s and 20" w/s pair up very nicely and definitely fit in 91 cm. It's what I have here and by getting a 20" w/s you can opt for a quality panel with great viewing angles like the IPS in the 2007WFP.

Thanks everyone for replys..

Why CRT if doing photography work? I am doing a lot of photoshop..

It isn't essential but most people that do a lot of photographic work would go with a crt as the quality tft's are so expensive. It's just about color accuracy which is needed for pro's.

It's probably a little exagerated how bad colours are supposed to be on LCDs. Have a play with this-

Change the LCD on the right to look at a variety of popular models and use the middle drop down box to look at colours before and after calibration, and colour gamut. Interesting stuff. There's some cheap TN panels there with very decent after-calibration colours. Also worth pointing out how necessary proper calibration seems to be on just about any screen if you want accurate colours.

Hmm, so its come down to either of these:

17" non-ws and 20" ws
or
x2 non-ws 19"
or
22" ws

I want it mainly for photo/video editing. School/college work. Mulititasking. I was as much space as possible.

What sort of budget do you have? You can get a 22" w/s for £158, plus a 19" for £117, so it's not really much more expensive than 20"ws/17". Of course though, they don't have more resolution than 20"ws/17" so you don't really get more space, just more physical size and bigger pixels.

I think all three are good options, including the 2 * 19" non-ws. I wouldn't get just a single 1680*1050 screen though, I don't find mine quite big enough (in terms of resolution) for serious multi-tasking on it's own. Either get 20"ws/17", 22"ws/19" or 2*19", whichever your budget will stretch to and fits your desk.
