Hi guys,

Got a really odd problem and its been aparent since the PC has been built.

I have 4 usb ports actually built into the motherboard and an expansion board built into the case containing 2 usb ports. This then connects to the motherboard to connect the USB ports making 6 in total.

I have a couple of devices which use external power supplies (steering wheel and external HDD) and when i plug these into the USB port on the expansion ports the monitor goes blank and into standby. If i plug these drvices into the ports on the motherboard there is no problem. theres also no problem if i power the Pc down, plug the device in and boot it back up.

Does anyone have any idea what the hells going on? I'm very confused!

Thanks in advance.

I had a problem when I bought a new USB Steering wheel, every time I plugged it into the USB socket my USB router would stopped working. The fix for me was to upgrade the router. I only had MB USB ports at the time. Maybe the extension ports aren't getting enough power and taking it from somewhere else.

My monitor can go off if I run Stalker unless I go into DXdiag and change the Override settings from default to 60.

Is the expansion port seperate wires or a block connector? If a block is it the correct expansion ports for that motherboard, if single wires check your motherboard manual for correct fitting instructions. But most should be +5v - + Earth in that order
