Hi all, as the title really, my friend recently hooked his PC up to a Toshiba 1080p HDTV, but the picture is quite grainy (eg. text on desktop) compared to a dedicated monitor - just wondering why this is, as they are both LCD?

Well, since we don't know the connection type, the resolution he is using, the TV's exact name to know if there are issues with that connection on that TV (some TV's have bad VGA inputs for example, and look better through say component), it is a little hard to help...

DVI on both counts, TV model not that important, as I have seen this a few times - desktop icons/text looks grainy compared to a monitor, almost like it were a CRT.

Thought it might be something to do with pixel mapping or the decoding hardware onboard the TV?

Not sure if that helps much, any suggestions?

when i first set up my 1080p tv as my monitor I was appauled at the image quality, turned out I didn't have 1:1 pixel mapping so it was all blurry.

Anyway what I'm saying is have a look at the tv options :)

As for that link, I'm connected to the TV by HDMI via a DVI to HDMI adapter and its razor sharp.

Yeah, most TV's it is fine - but some models do have issues. I have a friends that is exactly the same - I think it is just the way the TV is put together.
