Monitoring GPU & CPU temp on lappy

I have a Gigabyte P57W which I think may be slowly cooking itself, as intermittently on cold boot I get a generalised red artefact across the screen. It looks a bit like red snow.

It is the standard i7-6700HQ with a 3Gb GTX 970m affair.

What software is recommended to monitor temps?

If I were to change the dreaded pads that manufacturers use between cooling solutions and chips what would you recommend I use? Arctic Silver?

I have only had the thing for 7 months from brand new and it cost me £1200 so I hoped it would last longer than this!

Afterburner is what I use.

for general on the desktop temp I use HW Monitor.
I like it as it gives you a "Max" listing also.

Yeh, I use that in combination with AB as well.
