Monitoring Options

With the 7800x3D coming out soon I`m looking to upgrade from my Intel i7 9800K so I`ll be needing a new motherboard and the AS Rock motherboards look quite good and have a good balance on features and price, but one major omission, they don`t have any two pin temp sensor headers.
With this in mind what other options are there?
I`m not familiar with any third party monitoring software or hardware so I`d like some pointers so I can make a decision to go for a AS Rock board or go with another manufacturer that has two pin temp sensor headers.

i managed over 20 years of watercooling without one lol
just means you cant set a fan curve off coolant temp
while useful to have
its not essential
 
Yes, I get that it's not essential but it is something I'd really like so I can keep the fans at low rpm while I'm just browsing the web and then while gaming allow the fans to spin up as the temps rise.
 
you can do that based on cpu temp possibly gpu too
depending on the motherboard manufacturers software options
cant remember the name of asrocks software
as been a while since had asrock board
but basically you set fan curve by cpu or gpu temp
and i usually increase the polling time length so quick cpu/gpu temp spikes
dont ramp up the fans
 
There is that option, I thing GPU temp would be less prone to rises and falls than the CPU and I could use one of those inline LCD flow meters that incorporates temp readings too.
 
Yeah if the software allows by gpu
Then it's better option
If it doesn't I use cpu and set it to something like 3,4 or 5 seconds
Interval so it doesn't pick up cpu spikes
 
Can you not just get a third party in-line temperature sensor?
Aquacomputer are my favoured brand of w/c kit, mainly for the Aquasuite monitoring and management software. Their stuff usually connects via an internal USB header, no temp headers needed.

I`ve been looking at the Barrow digital OLED display but I don`t think I can set a fan curve using it.

I`ve also had a look at the Quadro from Aquacomputer and that looks like it might do what I want it to

Oh definitely! I have the Octo myself.
You have 2-pin temp sensors, fan control and USB connectivity to the motherboard... plus flow monitoring and RGB lighting, if you're into such things.
You also get Aquasuite access included, with updates for at least 6 months. It's wickedly powerful!!

Excellent, thanks for the info :D

I take it that you`re using a fan curve vie coolant temperature with this, also after six months do you have to pay for the software?
 
I paid €9.90 for 1 year. In that time there have been FW updates for both my OCTO and my High-Flow Next, plus quite a few updates to Aquasuite itself. I honestly can't say that I have benefitted from any of the updates apart from knowing that I have the latest bug fixes. For that reason alone I'll likely pay for the next year.
 
I`ll have a look into it, I`m going to keep it simple so I can`t see me needing to upgrade but as long as it`s not expensive then it`s not a problem if I do need to upgrade.
It's a tenner a year for the latest updates to drivers, software, firmware and whatever else. Sometimes you'll get additional features, like new RGB patterns or deeper support for things like HWInfo, but you can still just carry on using whichever Aquasuite version was the latest at the time of subscription expiry and it will work just fine.
 
Aquacomputer is your best bet, i have about 3 temp sensors all dotted around the loop to give me a decent average which i can work a fan curve off.


The software isn't the most intuitive and requires some learning but once you get the hang of it, you can do so much with it.

I've always gone with a motherboard with a temp sensor pinout that I use to monitor my coolant temp.

I use Argus Monitor to create my fan curves based on the coolant temperature. The Aquacomputer stuff is great but it makes an already expensive bit of nonsense even more expensive.

Yeah, I`m using my motherboard headers at the moment but the AS Rock motherboards don`t have the temp headers so that`s not an option if I get one for AM5. at the moment I`m just looking at all options and so I can make an informed decision when I start upgrading.
 
+1 aquero and auacomputer

Been using for over 10 years on various watercooled builds, firstly the Aquero 5le and more recently the 6. Just gives so much flexibility on how you can control things that I've not been able to recreate using motherboard control.

For instance, my pump speed is controlled by a virtual temperature sensor which is both my GPU and CPU averaged. So no matter how much heat is being dumped into the loop from which device the pump ramps up appropriately.

My fan speed control works on another virtual sensor which is the delta between my coolant temperature and the fan intake air temp. The larger the delta, the more my fans spin up.

Also really easy to adjust things in windows using aquasuite, whereas the motherboard software isn't so straight forward or only reliable via bios fan control etc.
