Monitor's: Swift or UltraWide

I'm just in the middle of a PC rebuild (I have SLI original titans).

As part of the process I'm considering replacing my primary monitor...

Should I go for the 27" ROG Swift or wait for an Ultrawide?

Will my dual titan's struggle with 3440x1440 @ 60 FPS minimum?

If so then would it make sense to go with the swift for now and upgrade to Ultrawide when I get new GPU's?

No they won't struggle.

Even if they did, it still wouldn't make financial sense to buy a swift just until you buy new gpu's and then go and buy the ultra wide.

Just buy the ultra wide and lower some settings if you have to on your SLI Titans to maintain your 60fps minimum.

If your going ultrawide, wait for the gsync ones.
The swift would be a better match for a pair of titans, but if what you really want is an ultrawide then save for that and plan to swap the titans when pascal comes out next year

I have a swift but will be trying an Asus super wide, but if its plagued with the same issues as the current wide ones then it will go back and I'll keep the swift

A ROG Swift and a 34" Superwide are not aimed at the same sort of gamers imo. Have a think about what games you play most and decide on your monitor from there. You'll have a good monitor a lot longer than you'll have your Titans, so don't worry too much about a few fps difference.

I had same decision recently and very nearly bought a swift but with all the problems recently with them I ended up going ultrawide. Really glad I did now. Your titans will be fine as my cards are. The swift has more than its fair share of quality issues. If you are a hardcore fps player then the swift is the better screen for that but the superwide is the better screen for all others pretty much.

I have 3 monitors right now, I'm just wondering if I should keep the tri- setup or if I should just go for a single ultra-wide.
The monitors I have right now are all mismatched which is part of my problem!

Is the panel on a 27" the same height as a 34" ultrawide?

Nevermind, they are...

I think I'll just go for the Swift, as the "cheaper" option for now.

I think later I might get a second then go for an ultrawide as I rebuild my monitor setup.

But I'll need to get a GPU with more displayports... Since my titans only have 1 each!

*Sigh* - £3500 of upgrades to get to where I want to be....

YOUR BASKET
1 x Acer Predator XR341CKA 34" G-SYNC WideScreen Super-Wide ZeroFrame Curved LED Monitor £949.99
2 x Asus PG278Q ROG Swift 27" G-Sync 144Hz Gaming Widescreen LED Slim Bezel Monitor - Black/Red £599.99 (£1,199.98)
2 x EVGA GeForce GTX 980Ti Superclocked "Reference Design" 6144MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card (06G-P4-4992-KR) £599.99 (£1,199.98)
2 x EK Water Blocks EK-FC980 GTX - Nickel £84.95 (£169.90)
2 x EK Water Blocks EK-FC Titan X Backplate - Nickel £26.99 (£53.98)

Although the GPU's will probably wait until Pascal...

There is so much space on a 3440x1440 monitor that I don't ever see myself going back to a multimonitor setup.

I went from 3x 1080p (22") > 2x 2560x1080 (25") > 1x 3840x2160 (27") > 1x 3440x1440 (34"), and honestly, I love how a single monitor setup looks so clean, and at the same time, I have tonnes of room to do what I normally do at the PC.. But each to their own.

I really don't see the point of the set up your planning. Will the 980ti sli even be able to run 8560x1440 or what ever the res will be at a decent fps at good settings? Wouldn't a better idea to go superwide first for the main monitor then if you really want the swifts in the future you can. This way you can actually test out to see if you actually end up wanting more space. I would guess you would end up being happy with a single superwide.

It depends if OP is planning to play games at 8560x1440 or having the two 2560x1440 monitors at the side for productivity and the 3440x1440 in the middle for games. If playing surround, I'd say it will not be good enough to run at >60 FPS tbh, rendering huge selling points of the two monitors useless.

Edit: I agree with Samsung. Purchase the Ultrawide first, save yourself £1,200, and if you need extra, get the Swifts, but I personally think the cleanliness of a single monitor is a huge selling point.

As a big fan of multi monitor setups I really like the idea of the ultrawide and two swifts. Also understand wanting rid of the mismatched ones you currently have (not using a Dell 27" 1440 for this reason )

I do agree that getting the centre piece first makes sense though, and a good ultra wide would make a great start to a new setup

I have several reasons for wanting a multi monitor setup.

On my desk at any one time I have upto:
Desktop
Work Laptop
Surface Pro 3

I want to be able to use my PC and have both of those with 2 monitor setups at the same time, as well as being able to play games on one monitor, have my monitoring up on another (work / or Watercooling) and be able to watch a movie /browse the web on the other.

It does make sense to buy the Ultrawide first I guess...
Also it might make more sense (since I'm not going to be using the other monitors of gaming) to just get good "standard" 27" 1440p monitors).

For reference I currently have:
24" Asus VG248QE - G-sync - TN
23" Asus PA238Q - IPS
23" AOC IPS panel. (Not adjustable, no VESA, connectors go straight out of the back) - Most annoying monitor ever...

Any suggestions?

Just get a superwide now then once you have the funds to upgrade to another pair of 27" then get those. Your titans will be fine for now on the single monitor.

I maybe able to help in this.

I have currently setup.

Dell 2715, Dell3415, 2715.. the 2715 being the outside monitors.

The setup is wide... but like you i use the outer monitors for productivity and work stuff... It's nice to be able to move work stuff to a dedicated monitor and keep things organised.

The middle screen 3415 is my now gaming monitor as 7860x1440 is not something I can drive with my Titans (TRI SLI) multi resolution is not supported by Nvidia.

I may one day replace the 2 outer ones with another 34incher but I will wait for the ROG branded one as not to keen on Acer.

Still haven't made a firm decision on monitors.

I like the look of the 40" Philips VA panel.
Then there's the Samsung 34" ultra wide, the Dell Ultra wide or wait for one of the G-sync ultra wides.

I really can't decide
