Hello chaps,

One of my friends has a Canon camera with the colour accent feature. I really want to be able to get the same effect with photos I take..any easy(ish) ways of going about this??

The idea is not to have one object in colour e.g. a whole person but for one chosen colour to be highlighted across the whole picture..so in the following courtesy of google images, anything that is blue will be in colour:

Thanks! :D

I do it the way above; or for a real brute force 'easy peasy' way; in Photoshop pull up the saturation tool and slide the mixers to grey for anything other than your chosen colour.

I have a feeling that is what's been done in the OP's picture, since the door on the left is still blue as well.

I do a lot of this in my work, either to pop certain colours or to overlay filters on select areas.
I achieve the effect in a more long-winded way than the above, by duplicating the image and mono'ing the top-level layer and then cutting away the areas you want to colour to the second layer. This allows you to be very specific with the areas you to colour, and allows for much more creative freedom in your image.
