Couldn't find a thread for it so decided to make one (Mods please forgive me if not allowed)

The pc beta now available on Steam I had a chance to try it out this morning and was very pleasantly surprised with the FPS that I was getting.

80-105 during opening cutscene
80-95 during first fight
Maxed settings (As much as I could at least)
No FSR/Upscaling
1440P

Given that a friend of mine said that the console performance was terrible even on performance mode struggling to maintain 60FPS, I was a little worried but now after actually trying it I'm even more hype about the final release in February.

Hoping to find some other OCUK hunters maybe! I've been a monster hunter franchise fan since the Freedom Unite days on PSP, absolutely loved World, Rise was OK imo.

MH World was my first Monster Hunter game. Really enjoyed it. Especially basically playing it as a co-op experience online. Price is looking good on cd keys at about £30ish. Can see myself picking this up.

They'll be adding cross play as well with Wilds, really looking forward to it. The MH community has always had a really active community, so we should be in for some fun times.

Still not sure about your character and the palicos having actual dialogue though, I kinda liked being these silent hunter who just nodded and grunted at everything to get my point across...

Just did first mission, performance for me was roughly 120fps at 4K with DLSS Quality and frame gen active (4090 + 7800X3D), I dunno maybe seems a bit low for how game looks

In terms of gameplay though I really enjoyed it, first time playing using mouse and keyboard rather then controller, went with my usual hammer and I felt sorry for that poor little monster I completely wrecked his day

I think that's not so bad fps considering you're at 4K?

No idea to be honest what kind of fps do you get without any framegen?

I purchased Rise, looks really charming but never actually played it, seemed as bit overwhelming with all the stuff at the beginning so I probably parked it for a bit.

Absolutely awful performance for me, pretty much makes it a hard pass for now.

2080ti & 7800X3D @1440P

Lowest settings with no upscaling I'm hovering around 40-45fps during action. DLSS jumps that up to just about 60.
Max settings it drops into the 30s, with DLSS it hovers around the 50s.
The frame generation mod works here and does jump it up into the 80s, but I'm getting a lot of artifacts around HUD elements and ghosting on my character during camera movement.

Even maxed out I think the image quality is really poor in places, it just seems blurry most of the time.

You are using newest FSR in that mod right?

As someone who has put over 1k hours into MHW and 400 in MHR it all feels a bit meh to me.
Apart from QOL changes and improvements which are limited its not doing much to interest me too much.
Animations of the monsters and your character are nice and smooth but its not as if the game looks much better than world or rise.
For a game in 2024 lets be honest graphically its poor on max settings.
In all honesty the only neat new feature i see is the wound system.
I cant fault the magical gameplay of the series but its just not doing anything more than MHW does.

To be fair that sums up most MH releases, rarely do you get new gameplay mechanics or weapons

Agreed and if its not broken and all that but they could have improved the environments but they didnt and the net result is a boring looking generic world not to mention it looks and performs absolutely terrible.

Yeah I have to agree there, I don't think it helps that worlds first area was a lovely forest while this is a desert

As someone who hasn't touched any of these games before, which one do you recommend or should I wait to see what this new one is like that's coming out next year?

MH World is the best in the business but MH Rise has updated QOL changes from world but its more casual friendly imho, very solid game and might be the easiest to get into but for the purist experience World is the way to go, probably dirt cheap now too.
Try the cheapest maybe to see if you enjoy the gameplay loop?
Or you could just wait.
Worth mentioning the vast modding support for world though.

Bought the digital deluxe monster edition which comes with the icebourn expansion and some cosmetic dlc for £14 which I thought was quite cheap. Downloading now so probably give it a quick go tonight.

have fun! One thing that I would definitely say as a new player is to just stick at it if you feel a bit discouraged at the start. Monster Hunter games have a really steep learning curve and each weapon handles significantly different from the each other. One thing Monster Hunter has never really done well at least in my opinion is easing new players into the mechanics of weapons very well and it can seem quite daunting and there is a lot to learn but I promise you when you actually get it, There really is no other substitute for Monster Hunter.

Yes literally ignore the first few hours, i almost gave up several times.
After that period and once you hit endgame its a wonderful game.
