Montage? What do you think?

Nice vid Gregster, great song and thanks for my vid comment. I started making a 3rd Dying Light video but never finished it, need to go back to it.

Thanks and I really did chuckle at your vid with you jumping back and forth and that zombie falling again and again :D

I dont want to just echo what everyone else has said, but here is a movie (not hardline) but i think that any aspiring game movie maker could learn from. I find it can watch it beginning to end without getting bored as the interspersed commentary/music transitions etc all keep up the pace.

Still don't like it, in fact I can't see any difference.

- Too many transition effects
- No skill being shown and with Hardline having a low ttk you should really get more kills.
- You fast forward footage at times that just shows you like to camp
- You fail drag shots and then finish with a pistol instead
- You fail at leading shots many times and montage only shows kills where someone is running linear towards you or stationary.
- There is no long distance shots if you're doing sniping montages
- Clips end abruptly (not finishing the story) for example there were 2 guys in the same room as you then you take out a pistol, fail a kill and then we're left wondering what the **** happened?
- Where are the kills where you shoot someone out of a little bird, collateral kills, get kills through a plume of smoke or have a great killing spree? I can't see anything like that which should be in any montage.

If you want to watch someone who does it right then watch this guys videos:

There has always been an appeal with getting OSK with sniper rifles but for montages we want to see how good you are at using them. I think you need to practise or at least watch videos by those who are very good sniper players and pick up some tips.

Great video. The meta for QL seems to be far higher than it did in Q3 1v1.

But even though it has a different feel QL just shows that even after almost 16yrs, the Q3 engine / physics / map designs stand up on the world stage for esports.

I suppose you could argue there is a lack of competition, but the competition has always tried and lost in the arena category.

As a decrepit Q3 player I can appreciate the insane skill displayed in that video, but I think the commentary helps to set the scene for those who are not familiar. Also, for me, it highlights how map control, skill, movement and map knowledge combine to mean you can get a kill against an opponent with far more armour and health, whereas todays FPS games are all about silly TTK.

@manju that BF vid is epic. Thoroughly enjoyed it :D

after the last two montages being ok. I think this one is better as I have got better gameplay in my opinion what do you think? link is in the first comment

Well it turns out I watched the video and then read all the replies and agreed with them.

Didn't know that I watched the 'improved' version :o

Well you're using less of the diabolical transitions, so that's progress. The actual footage itself still isn't great - standard frags, especially hardscoping, are about as exciting as filling out a tax form. The addition of text was entirely unnecessary too.

It's pretty hideous if i'm being honest and not a huge leap forward from the other two. You have calmed down with the transitions but the addition of text is even worse. Try watching some of the other videos posted in this thread.

Not great.

I liked the title screen, rather nice.

Personally, I'm not a lover of that kind of music / choice of words in games (a bit cheesy), though I don't think there's anything wrong with the tune, it's just personal preference.

With regard to the transitions, due to the frequency of use in a video of this nature, keeping them more consistent will look better, imo. That said, in recent videos, I've been experimenting with different options myself, though it has to be said that my needs are very different.

In terms of the quality of play / content, I think there's room for cutting out some unnecessary footage / too long sequences, etc. Overall, though, I thought it was okay.

Keep at it. :)

You lost me at popping up with a sniper rifle aiming at someone who was oblivious to your position and then flashing up "get WRECKED" on the screen. Sorry.

Montages are very definitely old hat now, their only place on youtube now is for parodies.

If you want viewers on Youtube, capture genuinely interesting or funny moments that everybody can relate to, and a commentary is essential. Often what the person playing says makes even the most mundane gameplay interesting.
