Yeah I know - I paid that originally for my first 1.4 Mk4 Astra at 19! (Group 4 - and that was a cheap quote for Fully Comp!)

It just leads to the large number of young drivers without insurance or with fraudulent insurance.

I've just resigned myself to it

Alfas are really bad - a 1.6 147 (only group 11) is £165pm, a 2 litre is £200pm (group 15)!

That takes the proverbial. YOung people do have more disposable income today simply because they can't afford to move out. So it seems insurance companies are taking advantage. Mind you my first ever car was a 1200 VW Beetle. So were my next 3 or 4 motors before I moved into MK1 Golf, Mk2 Golf Mk3 Golf (can you spot a trend lol) and so on.
 
I don't think insurance is higher today (in inflation-adjusted terms) than when I was 17, in 1990. Maybe someone in the insurance industry can correct me, but that's the impression I get.
