Moon and Mars

Personally I'm going to go manual, rattle the aperture down to around f16, get the thing focused and see what shutter speed i need. Probably shoot at ISO 100 as well.

If i remember you've got the same camera as myself so remember to go into the menu, along to the custom settings and enable the long exposure noise reduction function. But as i said it im not sure how long a shutter speed I'll require so it may not be needed.

Happy shooting if it stays fair for you though. Think I'll try back garden or park behind where i stay or the park beyond that to see if i can get an image.

Yeah i have the same :) From what shutter speed would having long exp noise reduction be beneficial?
I'll just have a play with it when i'm out, if i go. Thanks.

it doesnt look any different to me, just as bright as always, but i guess thats because the moon is killing my eyes because its so bright???

30 minutes ago I looked outside, lovely clear sky and moon nice and bright. I got the tripod out ready, just looked outside... nothing! Complete "cloud-out"! :(

Nothing massively spectacular, but managed to get one:

its raining and hailing outside. Just wandered in a big circle and theres no moon no stars and no mars.

but at 5pm there was a massive full moon, in the day!

its raining and hailing outside.

Thats just a challenge! :p

Nice and bright out here just now. Going to sit it out for about 10 mins in the house before venturing out. some light cloud but can clearly see both mars and the moon. will try out some of my filters as well to see if i can get something a bit more balanced exposure wise. :o

Couldn't get mars in the shot aswell, but I must get at least some points for the moon? :p

Oh settings were ISO 200, f8, 1/320, 300mm

i got them in a shot together. Moon overexposed massively, mars visible. Or moon there and mars slightly visible.

Also took a max zoomed in (250x1.6) shot of mars, however in the 30seconds i ended up with a star trail since it had moved so much! :o

Wow the moon is bright out there!
I had a go and took a few shots. Will get it uploaded a bit later.. mine sucks though.. overexposed moon and i get a tiny flare next to mars on some of them.

And 55m (on crop) isn't long enough :(

absolutely hopeless :D

when i went out the cloud started coming over so took a few at a longer exposure time......nice bright balls!

couldn't get them both so opted for the 300 mm on 1.6x crop and still looks crap. dont think I'll post anything!

I didn't really try and capture the moon, only 120mm max with my kit so I went with something simple but B&W it to show more stars:

That BIG bright thing is our moon...

Out of curiosity, I zoomed all the way into Mars and snapped it.
This is a HEAVILY cropped shot at 120mm (35mm equiv.)

Noise reduced, and spot sharpened before outputting it.
