Moped or Bike?

Cheers for the recommendations.

@Brackish, I thought it'd be cheaper in the long run to buy the gear then I wouldn't have to rent it for the CBT. It'd also ensure I get a good fit ; wouldn't want super tight leather trousers from the rental xD

After sliding down the road at 40 odd the other day I can definitely say I'm glad I was fully suited and booted. I still have all of my skin and the armour helped a lot!

Gear was some cheap buffalo stuff I picked up from the local bike shop, I'm surprised how little damage there is (just a few small scuffs)

Could you list what you use? :)

Buffalo textile jacket £60
Buffalo textile legs £60
Buffalo leather gloves £20
Spada sp1 boots £90

They're the same price most places, quality is good for the price and impressed on their performance, although I do eventually want to upgrade them.

I've got the same boots, had them for about a year and I'm pretty pleased with them.

id go for textile not as strong as leather but far more flexible,go for ones with ce approved armour in the back/shoulders/kees/elbows

i like weise clothing they make good quality stuff, avoid rst they are rubbish, sidi are good for boots ect

I'll second the above re Weise. I was recommend them by an instructor friend and I've been very impressed with both their X-Blade 2 textile jacket (£80 ish) through two winters and their hi-viz Hornet Jacket (£140 ish) now things are warming up a little. I'll likely get a pair of their Air Tech pants and some summer gloves in the near future as well.

Hey dudey!!

As the guys have said above, 125 is the way to go if you're interested in bike riding. Just out of curiosity, what you going to be using the bike for? :)

Um with everyone with regards to the right gear. A friend of mine rides a 125 fully kitted and the other day had some lady drive straight in to the side of him pinning his leg (he was stopped at traffic lights!) Had he not had the proper gear on he'd have more than just bruising! Plus I came off at 30 in standard jeans... Wrecked my knee (fortunately on the mend now) was gutted I didn't have my suit kit by then!!

Please get the right kit and wear it all weather. I've heard helm aren't too bad? :)

Reading threads like these, makes me want to give it a go, as everything is cheaper than a car which i cant afford to do, but bikes are quite doable. Ill be keeping an eye on this thread.

It'll be roughly an 8 mile commute to the nearest town, hoping to secure an Apprenticeship in I.T (interview Friday), in which case it'll be a daily commute there Monday to Friday.

Current bus fare there would be £4.50, working out at £22.50 before the rise.

Edit: Just seen http://www.geton.co.uk/content/whats-it-all-about , anyone had one of these free "lessons"?
