Moped

I bought my Gilera DNA 125 from a breakers. It was a year old, had about 1k miles and cost me a snip over £1k. It has two scratches and had been stolen recovered. I spent £50 on a new ignition barrel, box lock and lid from Gilera and away I went.

I put about 15k miles on that thing in nearly 3 years then wrote it off. I then made a profit from the 3rd parties insurance company too, even before I claimed the time off work etc.

Yep something else to go wrong...

People seem to think it's the ecu and fuel injection ect ect that makes them fo 55+ mph. They where doing that back in the late 80's early 90's.

I didn't think for one second that 55mph was down to the ECU but I do know that due to EU regulations, the ECU needs to be set back to factory settings to make the most of the engine on the SR50.

Not trying to come across as having a dig at you and I wasn't specifically saying what you said was aimed at me, I just don't like to think that my comment was viewed as one of those 'omgzers get a max powa sticker and a sports exhaust and you'll be goin 100 ezi man!!!11' comments. :)

I use a Piaggio NRG Power (Liquid Cooled) to get to College and back every day, very economical on fuel and its pretty fast. Plenty of torque to pull up hills 40mph+ , 53mph on flat when derestricted just with the standard pipe and rollers.

Mopeds have ECU's
Yep, it's absolute madness. Imagine my surprise when I cracked into mine with tools only to find how complicated the little bugger was. No ECU on mine, just a million little fiddly parts :D

That was my old bike. Great fun until it was nicked. Buy big locks if you have an NRG, it's one of the most stolen bikes up there with the Gilera Runner, Typhoon and Peugeot Streetfighter.

No, no nothing like that. Just really can't see the point in people paying 2-3k for a 50cc when it's used for commuting, they can all do 45+ and you'll have them for 12months max. Then you'll either get a car or a proper bike. You might as well pay 500-700 on a mid to late 90's bike. Ride it then use the money would you of lost though depreciation to buy a car or a proper bike.

just been looking at the DNA Runner, i think i am gonna try and get a 2nd hand 1, but thing is.. i only got about £500 - 600 for 1 :(
