Got it installed, since having it the pc has been crashing left right and centre. I have tried new GFX drivers, no difference. Updated everything there is to update on the system even Mobo Bios. Currently i have done the idle hack so thats now at 300, rather than 157. WTF is going on, my 4870x2 was top notch in comparison. I didnt notice if any difference in WoW.... anyone throw any light on this? I normally get the amd display driver error as vista catches the crash, the lovely artifacts on desktop..... not happy bunny tbh.

my pc at this clock runs absolute rock solid, has done since i Bought it a year or so ago. This card just plays havoc with it :(

Ain't the point.
Do your self a favour & make sure that the CPU OC is not responsible for the gfx card issues because of timing or voltage conflicts with the card.
The term process of elimination means eliminate even the possibility no matter if its unlikely to be the problem.

What kind of crashes are you seeing, general BSOD or stripey grey screen during gaming?

Id bring everything down to stock, possibly try the 10.1 grey screen hotfix drivers if thats one of the problems.

Tried running Furmark or possibly a benchmark to test stability? Might be worth running Memtest86+ also.

no bsod, just sparkles on desktop, screen covered in them just before the OS captures the driver error. "Display driver amdkmdap stopped responding and has successfully recovered"

Seems to be ok since popping the 2d clock up to 300, just didnt expect all the agro that goes with this family :(
All benchies are fine.

2 months on and still issues. It normally crashes out of game on the first start up then on restart it runs fine. This is now pretty common place. I decided to uninstall and sweep drivers and reinstall today. Now I am back to getting artifacts on desktop. Not tried any games as such. Might try a fresh install to rule out dodgy drivers/reg. Not sure if my ambx stuff is playing up causing this. Big pain in the ass lol

Yeah a fresh install would be a good idea, I always keep a spare hard drive around for this sort of issue.

It does however sound like a faulty card, but I would suggest ruling out the CPU OC and drivers/installation first. Better than getting stung by the testing fee most retailers charge if there is no issue found.

I had similar problems but , crashes etc when i upgraded to my 5970, eventually found that PCIe spread spectrum along with load line calibration were the issue, after i disabled them everything was fine

The OP would have tried this if he disabled his over clock as suggested in post #2

corsair hx1000, running the card on the hardwired connectors, not modular.

MintCake, trying this as we speak. I will reinstall this weekend with cpu at stock, if I still have issues, RMA coming on :D Thanks for the help tho guys.

Update, installed win7 64bit. Seemed ok for a day @oc values. Then started to play up with the atikmd error. But unlike vista it didn't result in an hard crash. Decided to stock everything, things working fine apart from the weird bc2 issues. Installed the 10.4's today, pute is oc'd but runs faultless at the mo. Still getting minor texture issues on bc2. Apart from that all seems well :) temps fine, only difference is drivers and not clocked the CPU as high.
