More CD madness

This reminds me of the discs you could buy that played a signal to "supposedly" properly align all the electrons in your IC's/surface mount components etc on the PCBs in your CD player for best tranmission of signals. LOL.

Thread makes interesting reading though (as ever with Mr_S's threads) ;)

Mr_S,

Not bashing you, and not up to date on your kit, though from this post it seems you have spent a lot on it and fair enough to you, but i wonder are you able to actually just sit down and listen and enjoy a CD or are you constantly looking for improvements? Do you always have this doubt that it could sound better?

I've been though a similar thing with a lot of games where i have tweaked and installed mods so much that i have then realised i have never actually enjoyed a complete game dispite all the modding as there was always something else to tinker with.

Ugley Matt -

Please tell me the figure on the very right of your sig.
What I can remember was that it was in one of the very first games that came out on CD-Rom in the mid 90's.

Day of the Tentacle I think it is.

A good and valid question.
Easy answer, I love music and am only really interested in the kit so that I can enjoy it more. Frankly I don't care if my stereo has 1500kw of power, can plumb 10hz, or has internal processors running at 50ghz.
It's simply been that I've been lucky enough in the last few years to meet some nice chaps and have a number of opportunities to hear a very wide variety of kit. From that I've been able to narrow down to what really does it for me and to do it at a much more sensible price than most.
So I've not really changed that much of my stereo in the last year (apart from the speakers) and some minor mods, although I've heard a number of different systems.

Either way, the result is one of the best systems I've come across at sticking a band in front of me. If you want to talk about music, no probs, just love the old rock, odd bit of classical, some jazz. All of them sound great now.

O yes, that's certainly the most important thing. Im in the same boat now, audio nirvana. Just modified my millett hybrid headphone amp, re-biased the voltages and it now sounds perfect, and looks just peachy :D:D

(sorry for thread stealage but i just want to show off my baby ;) )

Oooh, glowing valves. I like.
The best amp I've ever heard was a valve amp. To be precise, it was this:

The depressing thing is that it costs more than my car did when new and is pretty much bottom of the range for the company in question.

WOW triangole nobs :D :D :D

My millett is the budget of budget tube / SS amps, but sounds too good for its price. I dread to think how much some of them cost, and would have a car over that one even though it looks very very well made.

I bet those tubes cost a pretty penny though, and sound soo sweet.

It's a combined XLR / TRS jack with an unbalanced stereo headphone level signal running through it. Which isn't normal (as in, I haven't come across it before).

Ye it is a weird headphone jack, but the amp came like that from the builder. But there is a dodgy looking mark just to the top right of the connector, so im replacing it with a locking jack (below) as the surround should cover up the mark nicely.

I don't know anything about the disk cleaner, though I know a couple of chaps who do use that kind of thing and swear by it.
