More EA lies!!

"These next-gen platforms create dynamic, living worlds. Your game could change overnight depending on actions by other gamers around the globe. Your player stats and information can be updated in real time with real-world player stats and injury reports. These consoles are also inherently more social – something that didn’t matter much when the last consoles came out eight years ago."

The 90s called, they want their press release back :p

Seriously though, there's probably a grain of truth in the expanded beyond credulity. The consoles will most likely put current high-end computers though their paces, possibly even outdoing them in some areas.

Had this argument when the PS4 was announced.

Less than 2% of PC gamers currently have a PC that, in pure numbers, could be considered better than the PS4. When you factor in the performance benefits of dedicated software and hardware, it drops to less than 1%.

Yes you can build a PC thats better. But that doesn't mean everyone has them. The average spec of a gamer PC is well below what the typical user on here runs, and waaaaaaaay below the highest spec available.

No one is running fully HSA aware hardware with a unified memory pool either. There are huge gains to be made in this field alone. Sadly it's on the likes of EA to make this happen :p

How does this relate to the press release?

The guy who does this for a living and has worked hands-on with the hardware, tested it, benchmarked it and helped to create games on it is clearly wrong. The internet nerds know better (as always).

I'm not saying he's right, but unless you've had similar opportunities, how can you say otherwise?

It doesn't take a genius or even that much knowledge of the tech to work out hes talking complete and utter rubbish - a bit worrying for someone who is a CTO. (One aspect he touched on which is true is that its a lot easier than previous generations for developers to get in there and do their work with less barriers in terms of hardware and software interfaces but you can't spin that into the whole platform being more "powerful").

Don't assume everyone that posts on here is no more than the average nerd sitting at home talking rubbish either. Theres atleast half a dozen regular posters on here who I know for a fact work for various mainstream UK game development studios, etc. I've got over a decade of mixed commercial and enthusiast experience in video game development and programming for related fields.

Is the guy from EA actually part of one of their games development companies or just some suit who did a business degree whos gaming experience extends to playing farmville on facebook?

Hes a CTO so he should have a reasonable grasp (understatement) of the technical aspects of the business.

Contains swearies so had to quote it (from http://www.dsogaming.com)

Brian Fargo and Mark Rein call bull*** on EA’s latest claims about next-gen consoles and PC

Hilarious. EA’s chief technology officer, Rajat Taneja, claimed that Xbox One and PS4 are a generation ahead of the highest-end PCs currently available on the market. We all know that EA wants to simply promote next-gen consoles at this point, however we are a bit surprised – pleasantly – by both Brian Fargo and Epic Games’ Mark Rein who called ******** on those claims.

When Brian Fargo read Develop-Online’s article about those claims, he was shocked with what the hell EA’s chief tech officer was talking about.

The only thing Fargo said after reading it was a simple ‘No way…’

Epic Games’ Mark Rein replied, stating that he has already called ******** on that.

Mark Rein provided further details about this claim, stating that the performance levels of the next-gen consoles are not as good as those of current high-end PCs.

“They are ‘architecturally’ more advanced but performance levels aren’t as good.”

Game designer ‘TheKevinDent’ has also joined the conversation, stating that PCs are more powerful than next-gen consoles.

“performance wise they are not in the same universe.”

After taking a closer look at the specs of both Xbox One and PS4, it’s pretty obvious that high-end PCs are way better than them. Not only that, but when those consoles launch, new graphics cards (and CPUs) will be available to the market.

Naturally, we’ll have to wait until the first next-gen games hit platforms in order to find out whether EA or the aforementioned developers are right on this matter.

Who is to say he isnt right? Has anyone here tryed a ps4? No....

You can't compare spec for spec...pc games have to be made for so many configs where a console only has to focus on one...You only have to look at how much they managed to get out of the ps3 with the little amount of ram they had. Now im not saying hes correct but i do get tired of people comparing the ps4 specs to an equal spec on a pc system. I love my pc and i love my ps3 and i would love the ps4 to be able to pump out graphics that a top end pc at the moment couldn't handle..Im not saying it will but we won't know what it can do till its released. I love gaming on my pc and my ps3 and if the ps4 could handle better graphics than the pc it wouldnt bother me in the slightest as i would get equal enjoyment out of either.

Why should it really matter, I like playing on my pc and my Xbox.

Bingo. I wouldn't sacrifice any of my consoles or PC due to a crazy sense of fanboyish devotion.

Also, there's a big differentiation between "lies" and opinion. As said.. Nobody has seen the end results yet. And we know (fact) that having unified hardware leads to optimisation and performance increase beyond what is possible on a non-unified platform.

I'm never going to throw my PC away, but as a gamer I'm intrigued to see what the next gen can bring without retardedly dismissing it out of the blue.

I bet for a lot of people, their games console & phone are as powerful as their PC now. Just as the majority won't be running XFire/SLI setups, or even a dedicated graphics chip.

But it's still a stupid statement from EA.

Stupid statement, and yet the pr machine already has some victims in this thread.

Sony/MS can't make a £400 console that is more powerful than a £2000 PC. End of.

Now the consoles will punch above their weight due to their very nature, but that doesn't change facts.

I'm looking forward to the new consoles as my plasma TV in the living room is crying out for some some casual gaming fun.
