More Ethernet sockets for my router

It's a POE input. You can use it to power the switch instead of the AC adapter.

Judging by your original post you're looking at devices that cost far more than you need to spend. You just want a basic unmanaged Gigabit switch (usually under £20).

Ya I hear you. I was just thinking "Out of the Box" as the Power AC adapter is short and the switch is not going to be close to an electrical outlet
so I was thinking of using the POE socket via the router. Anyway I have now had a total rethink as you are right, my needs are minimal I have gone for the TP-Link https://www.overclockers.co.uk/tp-link-5-port-gigabit-easy-smart-switch-tl-sg105e-nw-134-tp.html

I'll only pipe up to say that's it generally getting one with a metal case unless the extra £3-5 will break you. Seems those are the ones suggested so far but just... for the hell of an opinion. The plastic ones can get quite warm, least the case can do something vaguely useful in the direction of heat loss.

The metal ones have the indicators on the same side as the cables though, so if you want pretty lights without having to see all of your cables you should get the plastic one. ;)

I have two 5-ports (plastic), an 8-port (plastic), and the 24-port rackmount (metal) version of the TP-Link switches. No issues at all with them, full 1 Gb/s bandwidth too.
