More from the Mail.... Or is it the Onion?? I can never tell!

How old is the PC in the stock photo?! Reminds me of my dad's first or second PC which had a button on the front that said TURBO. Did nothing. **** all.

It changed CPU timings for compatibility with older software, generally games. You can still simulate it with DOSbox by editing timings for games that still require specific timings.

I think it's about time we had an official Daily Mail thread to collate all their offerings. It's fun seeing what garbage they come out with on a day-to-day basis - but a thread each time is a bit much.

I've finally sorted out a solution to the Daily Mail, added this to my host file.

Code:
127.0.0.1 dailymail.co.uk #never delete

I haven't read the link, but I can see it going something like this.

My son was on porn - I blame the ISP's and the government - The ISP and government should ban all porn on the internet - I for one will not get of my fat ass and see what my child is doing on the internet.

Why is it always somebody else's fault? Can't we take some personal responsibility for things. It's a parents job to raise their children, nobody else's.

Most of the easily accessible pornography is perfectly legal content. If parents are worried all they need to do if either ring their ISP and turn on parental controls or install some software. It's not difficult even for less technical abled. It's easier to just shrugs your shoulders and blame somebody else.

Now we have this less than clued up people in power (like Claire Perry MP) using the "think of the children" line to try and make adult content opt-in. All because of ****less lazy parents.

I don't want to have my name on a government (or even ISP) database as an 'opt-in' to access perfectly legal content. It's essentially censorship wrapped in a nice "children protection" blanket.

Charge the parents with neglect?
They clearly didn't care to check what their child was doing, yet bought himmexpensive electronics to keep him quiet and out of their way.
Bad parenting.

Ring toss...... Score!

What I'd do if I had a kid:

1. Let him have an internet-ready PC in his room, with an XP guest account (admin account passworded), with Net Nanny installed. Make changes in the registry where he can't purge his internet history etc.

2. If the kid is clever, he might be able to circumvent the security of Net Nanny, so get one of the parents to check internet history daily, running processes etc.

3. Ground him if he abuses it.

4. Remove internet access if he abuses it once more. (by taking away the means of connection)

5. Remove PC from his room if found to be using e.g. a wireless dongle (perhaps given by a mate) in an attempt to get back online.

6. Don't give him a 3G-enabled phone until he's 16.

And if I was your child I would just buy magazines.

Shouldn't have a PC in their room at all (should be located in the main family area) and secondly that assumes a certain level of computer literacy.

I don't think that mags in the UK are hardcore though? Unless I read the article wrong, it was taking a swipe at the addiction of hardcore / illegal stuff.

Our much beloved Government has already narrowed the definition of what is legal pornography. Some people *cough* like consensual BDSM style pornography but our government made simulated violence illegal, right down to the point that if You record yourself and your wife doing so (but don't distribute it) then you're committing a crime.

Legalising 'morality' is so stupid it's offensive.

i have looked at naked women since 10 if not earlier.. parents can block internet access etc but all magazines and so on are still available i never had a problem finding porn.. did it change my thinking? no it showed me a womans body and tough me how the "part" is meant to be used and where exactly its meant to go.. :D you teach your kids not to smoke drink use drugs etc.. sex is also a very important thing they should know at correct age how it works and how to be protected from STDs and pregnancy..

yes you do need one otherwise it is classed as a link and run and deleted

yes I do ask if there is a point when folks do link and run, if not I delete the threads

any more questions ?

how come Stockhausen's rss threads live on then?

indeed it's so vague now that "grossly offensive" or the appearance of harm (even if 100% fake) is illegal.

Interestingly though because of the wording of the law and the insane restrictions, without a bbfc rating most modern films are illegal under it, which means if you edit one of those films (ie to make a music video or a funny clip vid/gif) if anyone dies/gets hurt in that clip it's illegal as extreme porn if they think they can prove you whacked off to it.

Interesting. It had a digital display that said '90' permanently, which was the CPU speed. Pressing turbo didn't change it. Maybe the button on ours wasn't actually connected to anything!
