Went back over to the woods to take some more shots, didn't really get anything i'm happy with, but here they are anyway :

#1 HDR in the woods

#2 IR HDR (bit of a mouthful, that) same as above

#3 ehehehehe.... Went a bit nuts here... HDR that I played with... Lots :s

#4 More HDR

Aye, 1//2//4 are extremely similar. Hell, 1 & 2 are the same shot (abeit 2 being in IR)

I was lying on the ground for 3, with my tripod very low and the camera mounted horizontally, so the tripod was next to me & the camera hanging over me. Worked very well, and was fun to easily be able to take shots from virtually ground level looking up with lots of control... However a couple walked past... And that got some odd looks

nice. Like the look of number 2, not much of a HDR man myself tho. Maybe try with working the trail/perspective more next time :)

Aye, HDR aint everyone's thing!

Got any suggestions on how I could improve the impact of the path? :)

For me personally, 1 - 2 - 4 Are too alike to pick between them but number 3 is just the blitz! Loving that one! Last one dont do a lot for me.

Agreed. 3 is the only one I really like. Nice colours, fun angle and the tree branches are like electricity arcs. 1, 2 and 4 are basically the same shot and it just seems a bit dull. Without HDR I can imagine it would be really dull :) 4 just seems for the effect too. Nothing really to look at. Nothing catches my eye.

use it to lead you into the photo perhaps, as in havethe path enter in the low left and finish in the middle as it leads into the distance.

Truth!
In a month or so's time that patch of woodland fills out with bluebells - hopefully I can get something more interesting there :)

I was trying to draw the eye to the flowers with this one, in the hope that would then lead the eye around the shot. Didn't work, though. The flowers are too small and don't have any real "pop" to them... They sort of blend in!

Cool, so a bit higher would work nicely here then...

To lead in mate I would try centralising your path more at the centre of the frame maybe shot quite a lot lower to the ground. Not to say this is the only way, just my 2p. I think your quite adept at photographing landscapes and so dont take an odd day out as a failure. Not everyplace is truly photographic.
:) Still loving number 3 though :D

:D

I actually think that one was pretty long... Could have been as long as 40 seconds!
Low light and all that ;)
Oh, and an 87 not an 89B filter! :D

Talking of getting lower to the ground... I was 11cm from the ground! No, hang on...+ head more like 20cm, but still pretty low :D
Think I'll try something a bit higher soon :)

Some nice shots there. Of the path ones I think I'd be leaning towards #2 as a favourite, the HDR versions are a wee bit plain for my liking. Having said that the effect in 3 is good, I'm coming to the opinion that HDR works better as an effect to generate unrealistic colouring rather than simply as DR expansion.

They've given me some inspiration too - off to the New Forest at the weekend so I'll see what I can come up with.
