I refuse the beleive that the Daily Mail would take a quote out of context in order to stir up indignant outrage. Its just so out of character for them.

I'd like to see/hear what he actually said, rather than newspaper's account of it, but if he said what he's reported to have said, then I suggest he isn't so much a sandwich short of a picnic, but that all he has is crumbs, and no sandwiches at all. Unless the context is wildly distorted, then that comment is so mind-numbingly stupid that I have to wonder if he's been raiding the Met's drug-seizure cupboard, and smoking the contents.

Maybe he lives in some kind of parallel universe nirvana, and only pops in here to do interviews and make press announcements.

Well, on the back of the comments from such an emminent police officer I am expecting my home insurance premium to drop significantly next year. It won't, of course.

It sure as hell won't if people are numpty enough to start leaving their doors open. Why not just give thieves your credit card and a taxi fare to the store. Cut out the middle man, ans save yourself the trouble of buying stuff.

The house in front of mine was robbed a few weeks back. They stuck their arm throuhg the letterbox and since there was no covering behind the opening to prevent it, they opened the door from the inside. Don't trust junk mailers!
