thinking of increasing my my memory from 6gb to 12gb corsair triple channel ddr3 pc3-12800c9 16000mhz as im buying software hdr type that will benefit from more memory?can some one tell me if this worth doing for my system will i gain from this ,also will it be a easy install ,is it going to be plug and play thing or do i need to adjust anything within my system .using ga-x58a -ud3r board and i7 -950 . and im right in thinking i have to upgrade in multiples of 3 so either 6,9,12gb depending on size of memory purchased ie 2,3,4 gb or can i have more than 3 memory chips installed on my system ? does increased memory speed up system or the mhz of memory or both .

What is the make and model of your current memory?

Installing new memory if you decide to go down that round would be a case of installing triple channel memory in the spare slots and pop into the BIOS and adjust the memory settings.
If your system is overclocked I would remove this and redo this after the memory is installed.

Memory below will be ok, sadly Ocuk don't have a great range.

You can mix corsair with kingston nicely, there shouldn't be any problems...

the old days of having the exact same memory in your system is long gone.

if you have 3 x 2gbs already in, get another 3 x 2gbs and sling them in. you will be fine

when you mean sling them in is it that easy so i take i have six slots for memory so i can have 6 x 2 12gb might be worth it what gains do i get

erm... you said you want 12gb yea and you currently use 3 slots??? just fill up the dimms... cheaper than getting rid of your current memory then buying more to replace the whole lot.
