More pay or less hrs? what would motivate you more?

More pay - That way I'll pay more in taxes, which should fund better schooling, resulting in forum posters who know the difference between 'less' and 'fewer'!! :p

But nah, I'd rather have more pay - Working fewer hours means more time to kill, meaning more money spent on occupying myself. Besides, things are getting ever more expensive, so I'll need the extra money just to get by.

Ideally more pay for less hours - no brainer.

But if I had to choose between them, more pay. Only because I need the money.

However in terms of what would generate the most productivity, I would say a bonus system that you only get by meeting targets. We don't have one at my work, so there is not much incentive to push oneself.

The problem is you get used to a certain quality of life and you end up living to your means - but deep down I'd love to have less hours, but I know it would be an effort to revise my lifestyle.

More pay ultimately would be more motivational.

Definitely a case for a four day week though, how productive are we really on a Friday? :)
Similar productivity questions would also apply to working days with long hours, especially in more physical jobs, but it would also affect mentally taxing roles to some extent too.

Depending on where you are in tax brackets, it begins to make a lot more sense to take less/fewer/whom/whatever hours at a certain point. Especially so if you have kids (child benefit clawback is an effective 10% additional tax).

They should just scrap child benefit altogether, there's your pay rise!
