More plane terror plots 'likely'

If terrorists want to kill as many people as possible and strike terror into the "enemy" nation, why don't they just goto concerts, football matches, theatre, random crowded events etc, then go kamikaze? I mean why go through all the trouble of trying to board a plane with explosives in the first place?

I know its a horrible thought, but I've just never understood why not. Have they got it in for planes, trains and buses? Do they hold a grudge against the british transport network? :o

I have often said the samething, never one to be a conspiracy theorist, but going through some of the strictest security to detonate a bomb with high risks and low rewards, it doesn't make sense to me...

As you say, why not walk around any city centre in Britain today, the train station on a weekday morning, a football match or a concert. All of these have low security and would be devestating. Something just isn't right here :S

Maybe its not middle eastern terrorists at all but just people that are so damn fed up of the british transport network they want to force the government to get an up to date transport network? this would also explain these things not happening in france and germany because their transport networks are brilliant :p

Because terrorism is all about psychological impact. Blowing up a concert might close down a few events venues and people stay in at the evenings but it isn't vital infrastructure by any means, and proving that you can strike at low security, unguarded targets is liking proving you are a hardman by kicking a puppy.

If you show you can act anywhere, even the highly guarded and secured targets, it means that 'nowhere' is safe - not to mention it paralyses a significant section of the transport infrastructure.

Not everyone travels by plane, places like the underground, foods stores places that everyone goes to would cause more fear. Planes dont really cause that much fear, places were you cant aviod does.
It just sounds like they want to get caught, just think of a few tescos or asdas going up think about the terror in that.

after the 7/7 attacks i flew to brussels (literally 2 days later) and it definitely had an effect on me. for a good few years, so saying blowing up planes won't affect people isn't true...

well most places in Europe and America are still on high alert in Airports anyways so why would they even try?

Fixed.;)

Most of the rest of the world don't care, you could smuggle a stinger through most countries security systems if you flashed a couple of £.

(a) Planes, trains & buses offer a large number of potential victims closely packed in a confined area, with the added bonus that the vehicle is likely to kill or maim a large number of bystanders.

(b) Bombing a plane, train or bus invariably results in a massive disruption of service at vast expense to everyone concerned (particularly the service provider).

From the terrorists' perspective, attacks on mass transport offer terrific value for money.

Do they hold a grudge against the british transport network? :o

No - but if they did, they'd have no shortage of recruits! :D

Ah the constant reminders in September of the threats the West face, surely it can't be coincidence that this one comes on the eve of 9/9/9 and two days from 9/11's anniversary?
