HI. I'm just about to build a new system

Proposed spec:

Tuniq Tower 120 CPU Cooler
(£35.24)

BFG nForce 680 (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard
£178.59

(GeIL 2GB (2x1GB) PC6400C4 800MHz Ultra Low Latency DDR2 Dual Channel Kit x2, (4GB total)
£293.72

BFG GeForce 8800 GTS OC 320MB GDDR3 HDTV/Dual DVI (PCI-Express) - Retail
£199.74

Intel Core 2 DUO E6600 "LGA775 Conroe" 2.40GHz (1066FSB) - Retail
£204.44

Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 500GB ST3500630AS SATA-II 16MB Cache - OEM
£93.99

My biggest dilemna is:

Would you sacrifice extra RAM (2GB) and buy a faster processor- even a quad core, or get more/faster RAM instead???

I have a Tagan 530w PSU- should I go bigger for the new build ie will twin 8800s run ok?

The 6600 is the most expensive CPU worth buying atm imo. Seeing as you'll have a really nice cooler, just overclock it.

For 2 8800 series cards I would personally look at the 620W Corsair PSU.

As noted above, stick with the E6600 and 2GB, you could always change the RAM to another brand Corsair, Team Group etc.

I wouldn't worry 2GB ram will be enough for now and that 6600 will oc to over 3ghz easily.

ATM nothing really uses quad core or any more than 2GB RAM. If you really wanted an uber build I would be tempted to go with the quad core or save your money to put towards a future upgrade or prehaps water cooling?

Thanks for the replies! So I can stick with the cpu, should I go for the 640 rather than 320 8800 gs and if I'm sticking with 2GB af RAM, how do I choose the best one to go for- Is it just get what you pay for, or is it like the cpu's- after a point, there's v little gain?

The RAM you have chosen really is nice, and will also overclock very well should the need arise.

All of the 8800 series cards are extremely good, so it really is up to you whether or not you want to spend an extra £100.

TBH what you originally listed will make an awesome machine.
