More robust / rugged router for garage

I wouldn't be clamouring to buy MikroTik for Wi-Fi access

The Cisco 145AC is their version of the UniFi In-Wall which is another option to consider https://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/produ...-01-bus-145ac-ap-ds-cte-en.html?ccid=cc001530

Neither would I but OP is after options in a very limited field. Also that Cisco is the same its not outdoor rated, same as all the in-wall AP's I am aware of, many of which do the same e.g. Aruba and Zyxel both have PoE out in Wall AP's but really shouldn't be used in a garage.

Well I bought this one from China in the end:

An odd piece of kit, and there doesn't appear to be anything else quite like it on the market. Very small, the box is only about 7.5cm x5cm or 3" x 2" in old money, there's a switch on the side for mini router, repeater (extender), or WAP, and a WAN & one LAN on the underside. It does get a little warm probably down to the size and hopefully this should help if temperatures do fall.

It seems to have been sold in Germany but not the UK. The reviews all seem pretty positive and it's up and running, but not sited in the right place yet so it's difficult to comment on the range. It's a pretty cheap & cheerful thing which is what I needed it cost £27.05 including shipping and taxes, time will tell if it survives!

Oh. 5.8GHz eh? Quality marketing. I’m sure you’ll be delighted with it.

It's actually 5.18 - 5.825 GHz and 100mW output. Seems to work OK, but there's little point putting an expensive bit of kit in there if it's going to fail it's a trial run if you like, and if it works then fine, but it's so cheap it won't matter too much if it doesn't.

Just as addition 5.8 GHz is actually 802.11n

802.11n: 2.4GHz & 5GHz bands: 802.11n equipment is made for either 2.4GHz or 5.8 frequency band: 5.8 is typically much less cluttered with signal-traffic.

5Ghz is 802.11ac

The reason 5.8GHz is uncluttered is its limited to 25mW because it’s also the frequency commonly used by drones and remote control aircraft.

5.8GHz and 100mW is illegal in the UK. But I suspect you’re already aware of that.
